Never again 2/19/2011

My first experience was with the lunch buffet. The food was ok but nothing great, definitely not as spicy as it should have been. Service was slow and we had to wait for several items on the buffet to be refilled. To top off our less than stellar experience the manager came over to reprimand us for wasting food because of a very small portion remaining on our plate. Also, they automatically include gratuity. Definitely not what I hoped for and I will never return. more

Best Indian in Philadelphia 11/5/2008

Absolutely phenomenal. This is the best Indian food I have had in Philadelphia. Came here with my fiance on a Tuesday night. We ordered the malai kebab on a sizzling plate and the chicken cashmere and lamb biryani. Food was cooked to perfection. Even the cocktail rangpur rose was awesome. This restaurant is much better than the neighbouring Indian restaurants. Beautiful ambience. Pros: Food, Romantic atmosphere, lounge, cocktails more

Delectable Indian cuisine meets 5-star accomodations! 9/10/2007

When most think of Indian restaurants, buffets, lines, waitstaff with limited English and cheap prices come to mind. However, Palace at the Ben completely breaks that mold with hands-down, the best Indian cuisine experience in Philadelphia (or I would venture to say... the Northeast...)\r I was privledged enough to host an event at the Palace this past weekend and everything at this restaurant was nothing short of perfect. Ryan, the GM, was accomodating, professional and extremely friendly. The Waitstaff was courteous, knowledgeable and amazingly efficient and helpful to all guests.\r Sure, the price is higher than other Indian restaurants in the city, but you get what you pay for - if you want the Days Inn, this is not the place for you - but if you're looking for the Ritz Carlton - go to the Palace.\r \r You can tell the owner has put a lot of thought, efforts and investment into making this restaurant authentic and top-notch. Service was prompt, food was excellent and ALL of the guests loved the food, the decor and the service. I anticipate that my husband and I, as well as many of our friends and relatives, will be frequenting the Palace often in the future. more

Best lunch Thalis ever. Superb dinner selection 8/22/2007

The first time I walked into the restaurant, I was taken aback by the grand decor. It is easily the best looking Indian restaurant in this part of the world. The lunch Thali is delicious. It is the best way to get a great meal in a matter of minutes for people working in the city like me. It is filling and extremely satisfying. I even made a trip there with a few friends for dinner and ordered a variety of appetizers and Entrees. Every dish that we ordered was extremely delicious and beautifully presented. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. I am an ardent fan of Indian food and can easily say that this is the best tasting Indian food one can find in the western world. In other words , it is real value for your $. Pros: Ambience and food Cons: Hard to find more

Top class restaurant!!!!!!!!! 8/17/2007

I went to the Palace at the Ben for dinner on Saturday August 11, 2007 with my wife Valerie and our 4 yr. old daughter Zahra. We had the most wonderful dining experience at the Palace. The decor is simply mind blowing, very very classy and the food was quite superb, every dish we ordered including deserts were truly authentic. The service was exceptional, so our overall experience was great. I love eating at different places and this one is the best Indian restaurant that I have been to in the USA. Check it out, its a fabulous destination restaurant to spend an evening with your loved ones and the best part is that it is very reasonably priced.\r Dr. Aliasgar Chittalia, M.D., MHA.\r Pros: Thumbs Up more

Best Indian in the city 7/30/2007

This is my second experience at the Palace at the Ben, and for the second time in a row, I have a great experience. The first time we had stopped there for lunch during a break at work. The lunch plates/thalis were amazing, with generous portions. The plates were aesthetically gorgeous. Our experience was so good, that I brought my husband there for dinner. We started with the bhaingan bahar and paneer tikka (both DIVINE). And the experience continued to follow the tasty start. The food was absolutely outstanding. The service was excellent, with very attentive staff. My glass was never empty. The ambience is gorgeous too. You will not be disappointed. We'll be back for sure. \r Pros: Outstanding food, Great service, Beautiful ambience more

Best Decor 7/30/2007

I thought my mother was the best cook of all time. But since I visited Palace of Asia in New Jersey, I changed my opinion about the best cooking. My family had to travel a long distance to savor the food at Palace of Asia. When I heard about the Indian Restaurant, Palace at the Ben which opened in Philly, I was thrilled. Now I do not have to travel far and have the most delicious food which is owned by the same owner as Palace of Asia in New Jersey.\r \r I recently visited Palace at the Ben with my family and it was the most exciting experience. The decor was out of this world. It was very tasteful. The dining room is done right-down to the crispy white tablecloths and the fancy stemware. \r \r The appetizers were great, especially, the harabhara kabab and chicken tikka masala. The navratan korma was to die for. Entrees like shrimp nargisi and haryali chicken sauce were delicious. \r \r After the heavy meal we were not planning to have dessert, but Palace has the best falooda. I always thought that India could only make the best Falooda, but I was wrong because Palace at the Ben also has the most delicious falooda. My son had chai creme brulee and he loved it. My daughter-in-law, who loves chocolate, orded fudgy almond cake draped in chocolate glaze, and it was to amazing! Everything was so good that this Philadelphia trip was worth making. The overall price reflects the fine dining atmosphere. more

Exceptional !!! 7/30/2007

We had dinner at the Palace at the Ben over the weekend and I have to say that this is the best Indian food I have eaten in America. Great location, beautiful decor and excellent ambience helped make our night a ""royal"" experience. The food is exceptional and I cannot stop raving about it. The waitstaff was very friendly and the overall experience was fantastic. The authenticity of the food and overall grandeur of the restaurant has left a lasting impression on my mind and I give this restaurant my highest recommendation. This is one restaurant where quailty exceeds price by leaps and bounds!!! We will definitely be among the regular 'royalty' at the Palace! more

Best North Indian Resturant , great drinks and tandoori food 7/29/2007

Have visited the palace twice during the past six weeks. Food is generally excellent arid comparible to some of the bests in the North East. A few dishes are ""experimental"" and hit-or -miss. Service was outstanding the first time around (Mr Manik Shaw was there). Second time it was poor, cold dishes and confusion. \r Much admired by American friends on both occasions. Place has a great potential and must service the savvy customers willing to spend and expect top notch attention. Pros: Great Tandoori food, Indian breads and bar Cons: Variable service more

Great food, but WAAY OVERPRICED and not worth the money 7/22/2007

As an indian person who has eaten at numerous indian restaurants in various cities I think I can give a fairly good assessment on this place. The quality of the food is definitely the best in the city...I don't think there is any doubt about that. The price, however, is way too high. The management really missed the boat with the pricing on this place and it's no wonder why there's hardly ever anyone eating there. The place doesn't even have a buffet! What indian restaurant doesn't have a buffet? \r \r And for such a hefty buck, you'd expect excellent wait staff and service...this is hardly the case. And I dont see this getting any better since no one ever goes there, the staff don't get much chance to really get better. And as for ambience...well yeah they are very well decorated, but the place is so empty so there's really no atmosphere.\r \r Overall, for quality of the food, BEST Indian food in the city (4-5 stars). Is it worth $20-22 per entree for dinner? Not in my opinion. I rate them a 2 because of the lack of value and the awful service. Management needs to get a clue, drop the prices, and add a buffet, then maybe they'll get somewhere. If they keep things like this though, I see this place shutting down really soon. Pros: Great food Cons: Overpriced menu, inexperienced staff with little knowledge of the cuisine more

Finally, a chic Indian place in Philly! 7/9/2007

I have been complaining about the paucity of modern Indian restaurants in Philly for years, and now I have nothing to complain about! The Palace is beautiful, modern and a fun place to experience Indian food. While not very authentic (I am Indian so I know good Indian food), the chefs are willing to experiment and alter recipes to suit a younger crowd. The drinks are imaginative and service is friendly although very inexperienced. I am sure service will get better with time. I lok forward to going again soon. Pros: Beautiful decor, nice owners, good drinks Cons: Inexperienced wait staff more

Outstanding!! 6/20/2007

Went to the Palace at the Ben last Sunday and it was truly an incredible experience. The decor is stunning and very elegant. The food presentation is far superior to any indian restaurant I have ever visited. Although, the entree prices are slightly more than the normal Indian restaurant, the value is much much better. The service is outstanding as well. We will definitely be back many times in the future.\r Pros: Beautiful decor, easy parking, best Indian food in the city by far more
