Great place, food & service! 10/28/2009

Me and Fiance went here for dinner a few weeks ago and fell in love! They are under new management have are remodeling but have a most of the restaurant side done and its amazing! The service was great and so was the food. The prices are very reasonable as well! It was very romantic with light music and real lit fireplaces. We can't wait to go back! Cons: a bit cold more

lovely atmosphere 10/17/2008

I love having tea or lunch here. Sadly have not made it to dinner in quite a while. It is a great house and I enjoy the restaurant area as well as the fun upstairs. Very good she crab soup. Pros: atmosphere more

Won't be back for dinner... 9/25/2008

Our experience mirrors that of the previous reviewer. We had a Friday night 8:00pm dinner reservation and called ahead to let them know that we were running late. The woman on the phone made it seem like such an inconvenience and wanted to be sure that we would be there by 8:15. We thought ""oh, they must be really busy!"" In fact, the opposite was true. There was one other table occupied. Apparently they wanted us there early so they could close early. The salad we ordered was missing walnuts and was merely lettuce, whole grapes, and gorgonzola - pretty awful. My husband's filet and my seafood combination were fine. Not great, just fine. To top off the mediocre evening, a waterbug crawled out of the wall by my head as we were finishing dinner. The dessert menu was pathetic as well - where's the chocolate?! Needless to say we won't be going back. Pros: Quaint atmosphere, variety of foods Cons: Unexceptional food, waterbug, mediocre service, empty Friday night! more

Good food, below average service 6/21/2008

There were only two other tables being served when we got there at 7:00. It is interesting to note that when I called to make a 7:30 reservation, I was told that time was not available. We asked to sit in the wine cellar for the ""ambience."" We waited over ten minutes before my husband got up to look for a server. The manager came in first. There were two cardboard boxes on the buffet table in the room. We mentioned this to him. He said they were from a delivery earlier that day and agreed that they were an eyesore, but did not remove them. He offered to buy us drinks. Next the server came in. She said that no one told her we were there. Good PR move, throw the manager under the bus. She was nice, but inexperienced and not pro-active. We had to ask for butter, more water, and after she poured the first glass of wine, she did not refill our glasses. We ordered red wine and she started to pour it in the small wine glasses that were already on the table. We asked for red wine glasses. The food is good, not great and when you spend $100 for dinner for two, you expect better service. We have had wonderful dining experiences there in the past, but we will never go back. Also, dining in an empty restaurant with low energy on a Saturday night isn't fun. There are many other restaurants in the area that are consistently good with no surprises or sub-standard service. The Painted Lady should pick up the pace and provide basic training for the staff and customer service skills for management. We agreed that we wished we had eaten at a different restaurant. You shouldn't feel that way after eating at a ""fine dining"" establishment. I will say that the piano player was excellent. If not for his music, the deafening silence would have only made an unfortunate dining experience seem even more bleak. It is also interesting to note when we left at about 8:30 there was one occupied table. It made us wonder why a 7:30 reservation was not possible. \r \r Pros: Parking Cons: Poor service more

Absolutely Charming 11/20/2006

Great food, wonderful atmosphere. Lunch is a treasure, and tea is to be savored. Dinner can be intimate for 2, or wide-ranging for 8 folks. Presentation is excellent, and the menu is thoughtful. What a great place! more

Don't waste your time 11/4/2003

It is a shame that you have a beautiful restaurant haunted by food from late 70's. Food drowned by sauces, maybe to cover up their ability to be completely untalented. Grandma might like. Simply bad Pros: ambience Cons: food more

Time for Tea 8/1/2002

Great place to go for tea or breakfast. A nice place to take your mother. Cozy atmosphere, feels like home. more

For a Special Night 6/9/2002

This is the perfect date restaurant! Intimate in feel, terrific service, wonderful food with wide appeal and yet not the same old fare. Great bar, piano music on the weekends. A small wine cellar room for dinning for two, fire places. This place is great. Try it. You'll be glad you did. Guys, this of this place for that special third date! Pros: wine cellar room, appealing food, fire places Cons: tables close together more
