Paganos Steaks & Hoagies

I grew up around the corner from Pagano's. I would get my cheesesteak with cheeze whiz , grilled onions and mushrooms. OMG! They are absolutely the best in Philly. No one can compare. Pat's and Geno's are for tourists. Pagano's is legendary. more

I am originally from philly and live in California. This is by far the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia!! YOu can find none better. I cant even begin to describe how good this steak is. There is so much meat the bread cant even hold it together. SOUTH street/South Philly steaks are an embarrassment. I hate people think that Pat's and Geno's are the reigning kings of Philly steaks--its an utter embarrassment to the establishment of true Philly cheesesteaks. Pagano's, as the neighborhood knows it, is a cornerstone of Mount Airy life. Ever since I could chew, I've been going there. For the ultimate experience, you have to go late on a weeknight. The place will be a madhouse. From the lines out the door to the guys selling bootleg DVD's out of rolling suitcases, it's a true experience. My wife is from Canada and was disgusted by the thought of the monstrous creation we natives refer to as a cheesesteak, or even worse, the hoagie! She was in love at first bite. She even understands the complex way we Philadelphians order our cheesesteaks now. With or without Whiz, the works, and everyone's favorite, ""salt, pepper, ketchup, fried onions"".
