Last year my daughter and I started in the Infant Toddler Program at Pacific Oaks Children's School in Pasadena. The Infant-Toddler program ranges from 6 months to 2 years with the parent onsite while the child is there.
The children are encouraged to learn experientially by experimenting with water, sand, soft and hard toys, climbing, painting, etc. There is a 20 minute observation period for parents and a facilitated discussion by the head teacher of various parenting issues such as sibling rivalry, sleep habits, tantrums, etc. They follow the RIE, Resources for Infant Educarers by Magda Gerber. As a parent, you will learn to alter your adult expectations and gain confidence in your parenting skills.
The school goes up Pre-K and Kindergarten and follows a well-rounded anti-bias curriculum. Parents of lower income, same-sex households, single parents, ethnic and cultural diverse backgrounds encourages to apply. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.
The school is located under the umbrella of a college where they teach students at an undergraduate and graduate levels the application and theory of Early Childhood Education.
