Great Service, Great Food, 4/4/2008

Where do you go to eat when you are on vacation in a new city?? After a full day of up and down the coast with a 9 year old and a 4 year old, from the Zoo to the beach; Mom and Dad needed a place to relax, sample the local cuisine, and recharge. Where to go!?! We found the PCG listed on our GPS unit. Modern Technology! After an easy drive to the restaurant, we were pleasantly presented with a gem. Easy parking too! The hostess was great, addressing the kids also. We sat in the rear, deciding on not having the outdoor seating which looked relaxing in the courtyard. Music was great, excellent decor and dining room feel for our new experience, a few date tables, a party of 10, another family or four and the other tables just beginning to fill up. Our waiter was excellent. Greeted us right away. My wife had one of the specialty cocktails, and it was fabulous. I settled for a local brew, recommended by our attentive waiter. Nick was great! The kids were very happy with their selection from the kids menu AND it came out with our appetizers as suggested by our waiter, before we even asked. BONUS POINTS!$$! We had the tartare and the Hawaiian BBQ skewers. Both were plated very well with the menu description, and the waiter's recommendation being spot on. The wonton crisps were a little thick, but the taste and combinations were excellent. Not just a garnish, the greens and avocado were an tasty mix. Our dinner entrees were also just as appealing, filled with flavor and color, with the Ahi tuna and the pan-seared sea bass. Both were cooked, seasoned, plated well. Tastes were exciting and fresh. We decided to pass on the desserts as the kids were exhausted. We were extremely satisfied with all aspects of our meal, and the little extra attention for kids to make them feel special. An excellent meal that made our dining excursion while on vacation in San Diego a success. I was surprised not to see more reviews. Pros: service, family friendly, ambience, parking, decor, overall, tastes Cons: not enough time for another visit more

Pretty setting, HORRIBLE FOOD, good service 8/24/2006

We wanted a nice patio restaurant on the water. Got it. It was a beautiful restaurant inside and out on the patio. The service was excellent and probably because we were the only ones in the restaurant! We were celebrating a friend's engagement and wanted something near their home and found PCG on the internet. I should have been forewarned when I first called and was told "Oh on a Sunday? You won't need reservations if you come before 6:00". I just thought okay, just be there before 6:00. 6:00 came and went and the only ones who showed up was us four and the crickets! So we ordered 2 appetizers. Got the lettuce wraps which were okay and some sizzling rice that was horrible!!! It tasted really "dusty". My husband and my friend ordered the petite filet, medium rare. It came out well done and they couldn't even cut it with their knife! Myself, I got the filet on a skewer with rice and a tomato in the middle. It was horrible!!! We had to send back my husband's and friend's filet. The management was very attentive and took it back with no problem. They returned with the new plates and literally, the meat was RAW. Too embarrassed to advise them again, we boxed it up and went home to recook the raw meat. The menu online was totally different than what was at the actual restaurant. It is not called Pacific Coast Grill, it's really called 1001 Nights, it's some Persian cuisine! On their website, it says "Marina dining experience with traditional American surf and turf", in no way was it surf and turf, it was more like garbage and sewage! On a positive note, the bread was good. The desert was good too, but that was probably because we were still starved from eating no dinner. My advice, do not ever go there. We would have been happier at Hoff's Hut. August 20, 2006 Pros: Nice Ambience Cons: FOOD WAS HORRIBLE. MENU WAS DIFFERENT FROM ONLINE AND IN PERSON. more
