Worst

Not thrilled with this location. I used to go to the Hollywood location and it is miles better than this one. Staff is a little rude, store is small, its rare to find a good buy, ...

Worst employee award 6/14/2011

Today I had one of the worst and weirdest encounters in a long time. As I was leaving the store, already out in the street, some crazed out woman jumps in front of me and starts swearing and accusing me of stealing something from the store. I suggested that we should go back to the store to resolve the issue and not make a scene on the street. Upon returning to the store, she (her name is ANNA KOPER) re-accused me of stealing a CD player, based on some other customer's assertion that he saw me LOOK at it. In order to prove that I did not steal the CD player (or anything else for that matter), I offered to let them check both my shoulder bag and to search me for the missing (?) CD player. Between her and that other moron (the customer who saw me LOOK at it) they did not have the balls to search me, while at the same time insisting that it must have been me and implying that I had something to do with it. Never mind the fact that any of the other 20 or so people in the store could have taken it or just moved it somewhere else inside the store. Long story short, she refused to apologize for unfairly accusing me of theft, even after I proved that I did not have it. Just because it is a thrift store, it does not mean that they should hire any idiot and let them interact with customers without at least basic training. They should not forget that without the customers buying the stuff, all their donations would just pile up and not bring in 1 dollar. By the way, the admin offices do not have an email address for complaints or customer feed back. Rating should be -1 star. more

Hit or Miss 12/2/2010

Like many thrift stores, this Out of the Closet is hit or miss. I rarely found much in the way of clothing, but books and household items were easy to find. So it was always worth going. Mostly, I donated huge bags of stuff each time I went. There was one time that they refused to take a furniture item which was in near new condition, claiming that they wouldn't be able to sell it. What? I just shrugged it off, but I never scheduled a pick up with them again. I chalked it up to laziness; many of their workers are troubled people dealing with substance abuse and are on programs of some kind. Thus, the uncooperation. Another time, they broke a very high end glass table top (new: $800) -- barely used. I couldn't believe it. The Hollywood location was miles better, however, I wasn't about to trek down there unless I was going for another reason. Traffic in L.A. is just horrendous all the time, the parking is ridiculous -- which is why I am happy to say that I now live in Chicago, as of October of this year. I take the train and walk everywhere... dumped the car and don't miss it. Even thrifting is easier; Chicago has an outstanding number of great thrift stores ... and value. Easy to get to, easy to shop in. Far as I can tell, no Out of the Closets here, but I don't miss 'em. I found more in the Salvation Army store near Fullerton than I ever did in L.A. more

One of the worst Out of the Closet stores 12/13/2009

Not thrilled with this location. I used to go to the Hollywood location and it is miles better than this one. Staff is a little rude, store is small, its rare to find a good buy, since it always seems so picked over. Prices are higher than other Out of the Closets to boot. Pros: turnover, donations Cons: staff, quality, higher prices more
