This 40+ year old burger joint offers a damned fine charcoal-grilled burger with all the fixings for $3.65 (doubles are around $5.00). They're just honestly good burgers. The fries aren't all that, but they're served in a huge heap and always freshly fried (from frozen). Don't go here if you're squeamish about cleanliness (the tables are usually pretty grimy), but do go for great burgers, decent fries in generous portions, big, thick shakes, and even decent hotdogs. Also on the menu are steak and grilled chicken sandwiches, BLT's and grilled cheese. The old fashioned drive-thru window, a quirky throw-back to the old days, is an amusing time-saver for lazy people like me. While for a few years there was an nasty, angry woman taking orders, there is now a really nice guy -- maybe the latest owner? -- who is awfully pleasant for working in such a greasy, smoky and hot environment. This is one of the few old Berkeley establishments still around.
Pros: Charcoal-grilled burgers, cheap prices, quick service. Drive-thru!!
Cons: Dirty tables and floors. Everything feels sticky inside. But you can always do drive thru.
