bad sushi, not authentic 3/24/2010

I went there twice for sushi and hibachi.\r This restaurant is ran by bunch of Chinese people, not Japanese or Korean! the sushi were not fresh. I assume most Minnesotan doesn't know what is fresh sushi! They recognize the freshness of the sushi by looking at the price tag. The sushi is absolutely garbage. \r The food they served in Hibachi is not different than the one you get from chinese take-out!\r ABSOLUTELY NOT AUTHENTIC! \r Pros: environment Cons: bad sushi, not authentic more

Awesome every time! 9/24/2008

I've been to osaka 4 times to date and each time it delivers the quality and service that is unexpected and almost desired these days. The cost has always been high when i get the bill ($70 for my wife and I with no alcoholic drinks) but its the hibachi grill that makes it worth the bill. I will continue to go there birthdays and major holidays since the quality of the food, attitude of the chefs, and serving staff has always been top notch. Granted I am, myself, a chef but everyone needs to sit on the other side of the table once in a while, right? Pros: The deceptional external - internal views, very ethnic Japanese Cons: Price is a bit much for many budgets more

Stellar every time 8/6/2008

I have been to Osaka?s for Teppanyaki several times and each and every time has been an amazing experience. More often than not when I go there it is like a party that is just barely under control instead of a restaurant. The staff is all very friendly and looking to have as much fun as the customers are. While it isn't exactly cheap to eat there, I did notice the menu prices were on average 2 - 3 dollars less per item than they are at other Teppanyaki restaurants in the Twin Cities area. \r \r The outside of the restaurant looks a little subdued, however the inside is very nice and well decorated. The location can't be beat as it is right on Highway 77 in Apple Valley. \r \r I have been to pretty much every Teppanyaki restaurant in the area. Some are really good, one is not... But Osaka?s is the KING. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have a fancy dinner on a reasonable budget. The food is great and their fried rice is out of this world good. \r \r The chefs are all friendly and flashy with their show. They do everything you would expect and then some. They are really good with the fire tricks. The sanitation while they are cooking is everything that could be expected, and they have the entire flippy fork and spatula trick stuff down better than most others. \r \r If you are a fan of Teppanyaki I really must suggest this restaurant. If you have never tried Teppanyaki or have had a previous bad experience, give it another try with Osaka?s. You will have a great experience here.\r Pros: Easy location off highway. Free Parking more

Great sushi....mediocre service 2/17/2008

I absolutely LOVE sushi and was hesitant to try Osaka. My friend and I went there on a Fri night around 730 pm. Judging from the outside, one would assume it wouldn't look as good as it does inside. I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. We were greeted by a friendly host who was able to seat us within 5 mins, shocking for a Fri night, and it was relatively busy. Sitting at the table it took a good 10-15 mins for the server to come and take our drink order. Another 10 mins to take our appetizer and dinner order. We received our appetizers and food very quickly, though. The sushi was very fresh and really good. We each ordered a couple different things so we could sample a lot of things, and everything was great! (the Lisa Lisa roll has a little too much cream cheese, though). Loved the volcano and heavenly roll! After we were done eating it took the server another 10 mins to grab our bill, which was a little annoying (but she was nice) All in all I would definitely recommend this place. (not sure if this restaurant is any relation to the Osaka in Eden Prairie, but I would go to Osaka in A.V. ANYTIME over going to the one in E.P., which was horrible!) Pros: Fresh fish.....Great Variety Cons: mediocre service more

The show could be better 11/27/2007

We went to the restaurant last month (October '07) as a party of three in the steakhouse section (the restaurant has three sections: (1) sushi bar, (2) conventional table seating, and (3) steakhouse section with a chef-and-knife show). \r \r I appreciate very much that they seated us for a show even though we arrived at least 20 minutes past our reservation time (late). The server was very nice about our late arrival and managed to seat us with another group that arrived a little before we did. They could have made this an embarrassing situation by refusing to seat us or by commenting about us being late etc.; but they worked to make us very comfortable. The atmosphere is good in the restaurant and the food tasted very good. It is a very nice place.\r \r My only criticism is that the chef did not put enough energy and personality into his show. It was somewhat boring. While he made a lot of noise by tapping his utensils together, he did not do any neat tricks and he did not tell any jokes as I remember. I remember better shows in places outside of Minnesota (Philadelphia, PA for example).\r \r I live about 30 minutes from this restaurant. I am taking two out-of-town guests to Ichiban's in Minneapolis this evening because I live about 15 minutes from Minneapolis. While the food was good at Osaka, I would like to treat my guests to a more impressive show if possible. I have NEVER been to the place in Minneapolis, so I do not know how this will compare to Osaka. I would recommend Osaka if you live nearby. Perhaps, the Chef did not put on his best show because he was having a bad day. Osaka is a good restaurant in my opinion based on this, my only visit.\r more
