Orthopedic Rehabilitation Specialists instead of CORA 12/29/2008

My primary Doctor referred me to CORA for physical therapy but instead I chose to work with Bruce Wilk, at Orthopedic Rehab Specialists, in the building adjoing CORA at 8720 N. Kendall Drive. My experience at CORA was not a pleasant one. I've had better experiences in a public bathroom where a bathroom attendant gives you soap, paper towels, and tells you to have a good day. On Nov. 24 2008, as soon as my primary Doctor referred me to physical therapy, I wasted no time and went to CORA to scheduled my first appiontment. I was told nothing was available until Dec. 9 at 10 am. So I scheduled my appointment for that date and filled out all their papers, questionnaires, etc., had them copy my license and my insurance card. When I arrived at CORA a few minutes before 10 am on Dec. 9, I wasted 15 minutes while they searched for my file, and then found out that they had misplaced it. Then it turned out that their computer system was down and told me that my appointment was not on Dec. 9 but on Dec. 2. They marked me as a ""no show"" but never did anyone from CORA contact me. Instead of finding a solution, the same receptionist that scheduled me, was wrongly insisting that my appointment was last week. I left CORA, with the firm intention of not returning. They were unprofessional, disorganized, and their facility was below standards. On the same day, I went to Orthopedic Rehab Specialists where a friend told me that he had a plasant experience there. I went to schedule my first appiontment with an understanding that they could treat me and schedule me for another day. Bruce Wilk took me right in, without an appointment, and with a center at least 3 to 4 times as busy as CORA had been; and literly within 5 minutes I was on a table being worked by Bruce. We worked from 10:30 to noon. I took care of all the paper work after my appointment. The staff there where very helpful and did not misplace my file on my next appointment. I'll be continuing to work with Bruce and ORS. more

The Best Physical Therapy for performing arts!! 10/20/2008

I injured my foot and ankle during a dance class and I asked around for a PT who deals with dancers. Jeff Stenback's name came up at Orthopedic Rehab Specialists. I'm so glad I went there for therapy. Totally individualized care by someone who really knows what we dancers go through! I was very impressed and happy that I listened to my friend. I highly recommend their facility. more

Put your right foot forward! 7/30/2008

After many years of little or no exercise I was finally committed to getting back into shape. Unfortunately my feet were not as committed as I was. I thought I had a simple sprain ankle and after a few unsuccessful home remedies I, like most other people went to my primary care physician who right away referred me to a specialist. This is where the fun began. In a four month period, I had a dozen office visits, dozens of x-rays, an MRI, a cane, a soft cast boot, crutches, pain killers, anti-inflammatory pills, foot wraps, shoe inserts, and too many ice packs to count. After all these treatments, I still had the same pain I began with.\r \r After my first visit with Bruce Wilk, I finally began to feel relief. Turns out my pain was a result from an improperly fitted biking shoe which he helped me correct. Seems like a simple enough diagnosis, but one that can only come from someone who has ran and biked as much as he as. No one else had ever asked me anything about how I was training. I?ve been going back for more treatments and have started biking once again. His treatments are simple yet highly effective. I leave there feeling great! \r more

Orthopedic Rehabilition Specialists: That's what you will find here is you need Physical Therapy 4/30/2008

I just finished my last session of therapy with Bruce Wilke at the Orthopedic Rehabilition Specialists center on Kendall drive, near Baptist Hospital and I must give a mightly thank you to the man who got me back on my feet 5 times in as many years. Two back surgeries, one knee surgery and a torn rotater cuff surgery. Even a little complication from some nerve damage due to my first spinal fusion that left me with a condition called Neuropathy in my legs.\r \r Bruce helped me after each episode with hands on therapy where he teaches the correct way to stretch and walk while he works on those sore muscles in an aggressive way to help them heal faster and get stronger. \r \r In the well-equiped gym there is every kind of torture equipment :)...I always feel like I had a great workout when I leave there even if I am a bit achy. Ultimately feeling stronger with flexibililty and movement...it was a miracle how he helped me get use of my arm back after my shoulder surgery which left my arm with a Big Zero mobility. best of all is that he really knows what he is doing so I have confidence in Bruce....By the way, his associates are all very professional and excellent therapists in their own right with their own style so any problem you might have can and will be treated with their expertise. Everyone else who works there goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome...Should you need any kind of Therapy, physical or rehabilitation this is the place for you .\r \r \r . \r Pros: Helped get me back on my feet and use of my arm...everyone is friendly and efficent in the office Cons: Well, therapy is hard work more

Proper Lymphedema Management 4/28/2008

I am a 50 year old lifelong athlete. I play tennis and love to golf. Five years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I underwent surgery and then chemotherapy treatments. Then one day after a vigorous tennis lesson my right arm swelled. Boy did it hurt!! It didn't seem like normal swelling and I went to see my oncologist. He sent me to a local lymphedema center. \r \r For three weeks I received manual lymphedema drainage therapy. After two months my arm was less swollen and I felt better. But once I went back to exercise my arm began to swell again. My doctor and therapist both told me I had to alter my lifestyle. I did not accept this. I did not go through this much not to be able to do what I loved. \r \r My friend told me about Orthopedic Rehab. Specialists. She said they would help me get back to my active lifestyle. Once I started therapy with Cynthia Gonzalez she showed me where my shoulder was weak and incorporated vigorous exercise into my lymphedema therapy program with hands-on therapy. I eventually went back to playing golf and tennis and my arm has not swelled since. Thank God for Cynthia Gonzalez--she really saved my life!!!!\r more

Great Rehab Office 4/23/2008

I couldn't move my shoulder so I went to my doctor and he told me I needed physical therapy 3 x's a week for a month. The place I went to had me always on ice packs and electrical stimulation. I wasn't getting better so my friend sent me to Ortho Rehab. While I was there they worked me really hard. They did hands on every visit. After a month I was able to move my shoulder again. I also met my doctors wife she was a patient there more

They Got me Running! 4/23/2008

I am 50 yearsold, I was training for my 7th marathon & developed severe right knee pain and I was unable to run. I went to a sports medicine doctor, which after having x-rays & and an MRI determined I had knee arthritis. The doctor ordered me to take anti-inflamatory medication, go to his physical therapy center and run when I felt able too. I decided to go see Bruce Wilk, a physical therapist where all the Miami Runners go for therapy. He found that my right running shoe had a manufacturing defect. I changed shoes and went to PT on an aggresive knee strengthening program. Bruce taught me to run better, readjusted my training program and I ran my best marathon ever! more

When I injured my left knee playing basketball, I needed surgery to repair my ACL ligament. I went to Ortho Rehab because I had been there after my right knee surgery, and my results were nothing less than spectacular. Now that I am currently attending therapy at Ortho Rehab I am once again impressed by my progress and the care I am receiving. If you need physical therapy for any kind of injury, or pain, don't waste any of your time with anyone else. Ortho Rehab will have you feeling better in no time.
