Editorial review from Citysearch 6/20/2012

Just got home from Open Door Animal Sanctuary, we were looking to adopt a kitten for the family, my daughter mostly, and when we got there; there were many cats and cute kittens roaming free in the office, we were asked if we needed help and i said yes, we are thinking of adopting a kitten and the girl gave me paperwork that she said needed to be filled out before we could even look at the kittens/cats.... so i spent ten to fifteen mins filling out the necessary paperwork while my 10 yr old daughter was already getting attached to several of the cute kittens roaming the office. When i finished and turned in the paperwork the lady read it and said that we could not adopt from them until we had our DOG spayed....we were trying to adopt a CAT ...how would that matter?? they cannot breed and we did not get the dog from them....my daughter was crying and crushed and i was furious. I looked on their website and nowhere on it does it say that your pets you already own at home need to be fixed before they will allow you to adopt. Not to mention that we drove a half hour to get there and wouldn't have bothered had we known all this. It is not a wonder why they have over 300 cats there, for one their prices are high and two they don't let you adopt any thing. THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE ON THEIR SITE.... ""Open Door Animal Sanctuary requires that all adopted animals be spayed or neutered, so all animals (puppies and kittens included) adopted from ODAS will be spayed or neutered before leaving our facility"" NOT A SINGLE WORD about the pets you already own being spayed or neutered...Very unhappy experience and we left very angry and with our daughter crying....never going there again. AND I SUGGEST THEY POST THESE IDIOTIC RULES ON THEIR SITE AND SAVE EVERYONE A LOT OF GRIEF. more

Fantastic Organization 3/20/2012

I was so impressed with the staff and volunteers - how they care for each animal. I also was impressed with their clean facilities. I have read a few reviews where people say they didn't want to take their animals. They are run on donation, they are no kill. They only have so much room. I'm amazed people can't realize they can't just blink their eyes and make more room appear. This is a great organization and were very good to us. more

Great! 2/10/2009

This was my first time adopting a pet and I love my little kitty. I choose them because they are a no-kill shelter. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. They even gave me some free medication and didn't charge me for a vet visit shortly after I got him. I'm hoping to get my next cat from there soon! more
