One World In One Word- Unique 10/21/2008

A truly different standard in a dining experience. Pay what you think is fair. Dishes differ daily. Great for a quick lunch or carbo-loading for a marathon... Clientel range from the business crowd to starving students. Don't be like the person above who rated it a one star and goes in with a chip on his shoulder. Just enjoy the experience for what it is. Price-worthy, different and fun. more

Semi-Altrusim is not working there.. 2/13/2008

Place is hysterical. Visited four separate occasions over the years. The first time I visited my friend insisted I try it. Damp, smells like a mix of patchouli/farts, and soup. The food is interesting.I asked how the whole thing worked and servers tell me ""you pay what you feel the food is worth sister."" So try a field greens salad with oil. The salad small on a salad plate. I asked the counter server what he felt was fair and he replied ""Well, like, we hope that you would give us a twenty."" I told him that I didnt plan on spending that much for a salad, and that I had five dollars."" At least he said thanks.\r Second time I gave them $8 dollars for a soup w/bread, I feel that was enough to cover the soup +tip. (Big City Soup charges $4.95 for a really nice gourmet soup w/bread, and I add tip to that). My friend paid the same, she felt that was plenty also. These last two times . If you pay before they plate your food they will give you tiny portions. Which was fine. I thought they run out fast. No not the case. Leaving this time local salt laker who is notorious for charging ludicrous amounts for his profession-and then throwing his money all around service places in Salt Lake City valley. These dread dudes LOADED UP this guy's plate. It was truly asinine. The last time final time, same portioning happened to us, dont ask for more!! Do not ask them to repeat daily dish if you didn't pay a ""fair price"" Since they don't give you a guideline on what their food really costs them, it's their own fault to hold resentments towards their guests by their lack of communication. Service industry enviroment knows you cannot rely on your guests to calculate organic groceries/tips if original amount is unknown. I have my live my own benevolence. I leave this place the 4th time feeling like these guys shouldnt use budda and semi-altruistism as their platform. I strongly disagree the practice. That if they don't have a price at all, then people will pay more. Very transparent. more

One World is one of a kind. Diamond in the rough 2/13/2008

This is probably my favorite place to eat and think. Unassuming atmosphere with sincere staff. Food is unlike anything you will find anywhere. They serve organic dishes (vegan/vegetarian options too) that change every day. Unique combinations of exotic fruits and vegetables with fresh spices and herbs. Soups are self-serve, plus they always have cold and hot dishes to choose from. Big variety of items to choose from.. different surprise every day. Be brave and try a little of everything..even if you have never heard of it before you will like it! After getting your food you can go and sit in a number of themed rooms. Great space for the energy-conscious. Unpretentious, great place to talk with friends or eat alone. I have never been disappointed with One World and I will continue to tell friends about it. If you are visiting Salt Lake from out of town, this is definitely one place you won't want to miss. Pros: Variety of food choices, great energy, unique atmosphere Cons: parking at nights, limited rooms to sit in more

Food with a heart 2/13/2008

Run, don't walk, to One World. Food is fresh and delicious. The concept is 'everyone eats.' No set menu, no set prices, just pay what you think it's worth. It's a great place and a true community kitchen. more
