We had a storage unit at this exact location. These were things that we brought with us in a separate vehicle that we pulled behind our SUV. Our Household goods were coming out in another shipment later on. We just arrived to the Olympia, WA area and was staying with a friend at his home. We decided to get a unit to store the extra belongings so we didn't clutter up his small home anymore than necessary. We rented a small unit for about 45 a month. They said it was secure with cameras, a key coded gate & surrounded by tall fences. Things you want to hear. Unfortunately, there are some major flaws with the set up of this place and are discussed later.
The place looked okay to us so we decided to rent it.. We had all of our belongings in another facility out of state and never had any problems of any sort but then, it was not the same company as this was. We stored our things there while we were in the process of selling and after the sale of our home. We moved to Washington. The people at this place ""On Guard"" storage unit reassured us of the safety of the units there. We believed that are things would be safe and rented the unit. 1st BAD DECISION! Had home owner's insurance for 15 years before. We only planned to have our things in this unit for a couple of months so thought that insurance was unnecessary. It was already expensive enough for the small size unit. 2nd BAD DECISION!
Within 3 weeks of renting this unit, it was broken into. About 2,000-3,000 in valuables were stolen from our unit. We had our PS3 with controllers and games, Coach purses, Guitar Amplifier, MP3 Player, Mp3 Stereo, PSP game system, Small Laptop Computer only about 8 months old with broken screen - True Religion Sunglasses value 250 - and many other items. It sucked!! After husband found unit broken into then he reported it at office. The office had been open all day and no one saw 11 units broken into when they opened on Monday morning? He called police and they came out and took a report. When they looked through the aisle, they found about 11 other units that were broken into that weekend. They said that there was little that could be found out since the cameras only record the front gate. My husband narrowed down the time it happened to a small gap because he had been there just days before to get something else from the unit. Nothing was done by the storage to help us or the police make any arrest or recovery of our things.
Last time I checked, no measures to redesign these flaws were changed. I would NEVER EVER use this company again. Inside Job? It is unlikely that our things and the other things from other storage units were carried over the very tall, spiked fence. It also seemed very suspicious that the place was not at all working with us to figure out who did this. They acted very shady. Someone merely drove in and out and nothing was done to determine what happened. I called the Storage Facility after wards, and asked if they turned the tapes of the front gate over to the police and they said that they could not discuss anything with me. They made it apparent that they were not willing to try and find out who did this. Never got a call from company or Tumwater PD.
Inadequate design to prevent break ins and no follow up if there is one. The smaller units like ours, had an opened door that lead to a corridor and access to several other units. Once you are in the corridor (all you have to do is open the door - that door remains unlocked) then you have privacy to break or cut the locks on the units inside. Then you can just carry the things out. There is not a camera on the inside of each of these corridors and there is no camera down each aisle but only the front gate. No company responsibility when they are negligent and you will never even hear from them again. Kiss your money and stuff goodbye.
