Great place for the whole family!!! 2/5/2009

Great price for a friend membership you can go with 2 guests and the whole family all year long, for the price of 2 movies for a family of 4 without the popcorn and other goodies. Great investment in your family, for little cash. I also disagree strongly that this place is not for adults. This is a great place to catch a Imax movie or laser light show, as well as, spend time learning interesting information on a vast array of topics. Money and time well spent for the whole family!!! more

Can something be educational and fun at the same time 7/29/2006

YES! OMSI is both all the time! Located on the beautiful Portland waterfront, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is a two story interactive classroom/museum catering to all ages from young to old. Omsi has a huge OMNIMAX theater where the whole roof is the movie screen and they show fascinating short movies on subjects ranging from rock climbing to the swimming at the bottom of the ocean, rainforests to Antarctica. They have rooms full of themed, hands on exhibits and labs on various topics such as dinosaurs, human development, the earth, gravity, gross body functions, etc. The motion stimulator is also a great experience, twisting and turning you on many great adventures. You can find out more about OMSI at their website http://www.omsi.edu/visit/ Whether a local or visitor, OMSI is an adventure you won't want to miss! more

Not for adults. 4/5/2006

I was disappointed when I went with my boyfriend. I didn't think it would be a strictly family-affair. We don't have children and really didn't get anything out of the visit at all. Also, there's this really creepy room full of dead fetuses that are preserved. About 25 of them in this dark room. It's horrendous. Also a HUGE section is branded with Cartoon Network propanganda and games/learning materials. If you have kids, this is great for them - Otherwise stay away unless you're going to the planetarium or IMAX show. more

Great Merchandise 1/14/2006

Located near the entrance of the Oregon Museum of Science and Technology, this is more than a gift store. It is filled with learning toys, science books, and interesting smaller items that relate to science or animals. For a museum store, the prices are quite reasonable. It's quite a large store and fun to look around even if you are only browsing. more

If Your into Science 1/8/2006

If you have gone through school anywhere in the Portland Metro area you have been to OMSI several times. There are different science exhibits all the time and lots of interactive exhibits for children and adults also. They have a gift shop and special shows throughout the year. I especially think it is great to take your kids and let them hang out in the areas they like best, rather than on a field trip where they may be rushed through. more

Cool place for the young and old 12/20/2005

We are lucky to have an incredible sciene museum in the portland area. My family all has their favorites, the little ones have their own special play area with coloring, sand pit, and water to splash in. My wife, always has to walk through the embryo exihibit, the older kids love to just run around and throw balls at each other in the ball/tube room. I love the brain stimulation figuring out the brain teaser puzzles. I suggest a yearly membership. OMSI has an exhibit that changes about every 3-4 months, but the kids never tire of the fun they have at OMSI. more

An indoor paradise for preschoolers 8/20/2005

We have young kids, so I can't speak for the activities geared to older kids, but my children absolutely adore OMSI. Especially the science playground, a newly remodeled indoor playspace for kids under 6. They have a sandbox, a water area, a fabulous craft area, a cushy reading spot, a nice area for babies to crawl around (with a crawler's level aquarium), a mock grocery store, a corner with a table and bins full of cool manipulatives, a kid-scale erector set-type area, stuff to make noise with, and a billion wooden blocks. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, because there is so much to do. The science playground is a fantasy-preschool set-up, where you get to play teacher for your kids. If you are especially interactive, there is an endless amount of learning that can be done here. Kids who are kinesthetic learners will be especially at home here. I also have to mention the nursing mother's room and the family bathroom with a little potty. My potty-trained daughter tells me this is her favorite potty at a moo-zeem. Get a membership and come every week! Discount if you have AAA. more

Fun place 8/17/2005

OMSI is one of those weird, but fun places to go to. You can learn a lot here, and they have the IMAX Theater which is cool. There's a lot of different activities, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I recommend a membership, because the place is that fun. You can easily lose track of time when you go here. more

Fun and Educational 8/10/2005

This place is great. Great for teachers to take students, great for grandparents and parents to take children. Very education yet fun. The OMNIMAX Theatre is great. It makes you feel like you are in the movie. With every move it makes you feel like you are moving. The price to get in can be expensive but its well worth it to pay it and visit this place. Its a place you will never forget even if you move away. The Themes inside are always changing so you should checck with them before going back to make sure its not the same theme as the last time you went. more

A great day out with the family! 8/10/2005

This is one of the greatest family museums in Portland. It's a blast to go to. It is a science and kids museum with loads and loads to do. The last time I went they had a large room dedicated to the truth of what happened with the titanic, and they had a conriversial display set up showing the life stages of a baby before he/she is born with real fetus'. It is a great experience to show these to kids, so they know that babies are alive while they are in the womb. Every month or 2 they change their exhibits, so it never gets old! They also house the submarine from 'hunt for red October' and they have an Omni max theater that changed regularly with lazerlight shows and movies! more

Fun for big kids and little kids! 8/9/2005

The first time I visited OMSI was when I went to visit some friends in the Portland area. We went to a laser light show there. Since then, I have been many times, and there is always so much to do! You can go to the IMAX theater and catch a movie or tour a submarine. The exhibits are also great and there are a lot of hands-on activities for kids. It's a fun place to visit and take your kids and adults can even have a little fun! You can buy tickets for individual attractions or a combo ticket that allows you to do several things. more

nice collection 8/5/2005

This museum displays an extensive collection of fossils that were found in the desert, which are very interesting in themselves! Great place to learn and explore. They have very informative staff. Lots of hands on activities for the kids and a great movie film about the findings and events. The staff are very helpful and the restrooms are always clean and fresh smelling. more

Educational and fun for the whole family 8/3/2005

This place caters to kids and adults alike with their IMAX theater and children's museum. You can spend a whole day entertaining the family here and the best part of all...it's educational! I love it when kids learn while having fun. OMSI is the perfect place for this. Both my 10 year old and 2 year old love this place! There are all kinds of hands on science exhibits to explore. From time to time they have special themed exhibits, like grossology, the study of gross things and insects and bugs. Fun fun for everyone! more

OMSI is the best! 6/28/2005

I am a nanny of 7 years so I've been visiting Omsi for quite some time. The amazing thing is that after all of these years, I'm still not bored with it. This place makes my mind work and I love that! Children, infants, teens and adults love this place. I've taken elderly family here as well and they were amazed. There are so many hands on projects and amazing bits of history, you can spend a whole day there, feeling as though you only just arrived. Visit Omsi, it's worth the trip. If you're local, get a membership. I have one of my very own ;) more

A GREAT place to take kids 6/24/2005
