Love the old seats and cheap food 12/18/2005

We will always wait until a movie comes out at the Olympic theatre before going to a fancy theatre. The seats are old, the floor is sticky and it's got big old curtains to open up when the movie starts....Just like when I was a kid. They can run movies just as early as the other theatres, but because there is only one screen, sometimes you have to wait a couple weeks for the movie to switch. The food is totally reasonable and so is admission. It's one of the reasons we moved to Arlington and I hope it is here forever! more

fun for the family 10/12/2005

The Olympic Theatre may be old and not have the fancy stereo system of the new theater chains, but it sure is a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The popcorn is great, and they have a special deal where you buy a big plastic bucket and a 32 oz. water bottle, and they refill it for cheaper the next time you come back. The prices are reasonable so that this one income family can actually afford to go the movies more than once in a while. more

quirky local movie theater 9/30/2005

The spelling of theater in the name might be fancy, but Olympic Theatre definitely is not! It's just got one theater and I think the seats have been there 50 years. Don't come here expecting thick, plush seats like they put in the new theaters. No dolby surround sound either. Olympic Theatre shows movies maybe a month after they come out. Tuesdays are usually two for one night unless an especially popular movie is showing. I love the bathrooms. The bathrooms are located up a curving staircase, mens and womens on opposite sides of the theater. For some reason, it feels glamorous to ascend the narrow stairway to the ladies room. I guess I imagine what it was like when the theater was in it's heyday. They have a concession stand which sells popcorn and candy. It's a unique theater and I'm glad they're still open. more
