The clam chowder was one of the best compared to the other restaurants. The menu was a bit pricey but the service was great. We shared an appetizer of calamari and shared one of the specials which was more than enough food. I am glad we ate here. more

Lots of choice in chowder and theirs was delicious.Great with cheese toast.My friend had the lobster and gave it thumbs up.Worth a try at $7 for chowder and $24 for lobster,chowder and bread. more

Old Fisherman's Grotto: You WILL love it! The food is way beyond expectation for a restaurant on the Wharf, and TOP NOTCH BY ANY STANDARD! Great Service, really- I don't think many know the standards by which to judge what great service is! It seems the server is reading your mind and anticipating what you want- and has it at your table before you'd ask for it!\r There's a real presence of mind in everything they do, the well trained Staff is a natural extension of their excellence in the kitchen. I have dined here many times, and I have even had several of their Steaks. I can honestly state that their New York is superior to any I've had in the highest rated restaurants from Big Sur to San Francisco. \r The restaurant also espouses a world awareness that I agree with. Printed on their menu is the phrase "Old Fisherman's Grotto serves only Sustainable Seafood, harvested in a manner that is non-destructive to the enviroment. Best meal in a two week trip along California 3/23/2009

We're italian and you all should know we are very exigent about food. During the september 2008 me and my partner had a trip in California and this was the best place we tried. Thanks fisherman! Pros: Only fresh fish Cons: You can't go there without the car more

Unbeatable Clam Chowder 2/2/2009

The best clam chowder and calamari that I've ever had. If either one of these dishes is your favorite, you MUST go to the Grotto. The Shake family makes everyone feel so welcome. The view is beautiful and the service is great. more

Fisherman's Grotto 10/16/2008

Great sea food! The atmosphere is lovely. It is quite romantic at night with all the candles and low lighting. Linguine and clams are my favorite seafood and they came through with some huge clams. Great service and reasonably priced for seafood. more

I love the seafood and the setting at the Fisherman's Grotto makes it more enticing to eat. I have eaten here twice with my family and best friend. We were visiting my best friend at Salinas and decided to go to Monterey for a quick tour and spend quality time with our families This place is great! It is a bit pricey, but well worth the money paid for the quality of food and service provided. more

A bit pricey but well worth it! Not a place top bring the children but great for a nice dinner with your spouse or siginificant other. Excellent Wine list and if you bring your own it is only $10.00 to uncork it. more

Best halibut anywhere, great service and ambience, amazing food 7/10/2008

We were visiting Monterey and went to this restaurant for the first time. It was amazing. The halibut is unbelievable, easily the most tender and best sauce ever anywhere. Pairing with sweet potatoes is genius. They have great wine at decent prices also. We had the VIP card from our hotel and received an excellent calamari and egglplant appetizer. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere is romantic, they have tables overlooking the water. There are candles on each table and they handed out single roses to the women customers. The service was outstanding, very attentive without being annoying or overbearing in any way. We would definitely come back here when visiting Monterey again. Pros: Food, prices, service, ambience, everything! Cons: none more

Looking for a nice romantic dinner this is the place. Every seat has ocean view and dinner by candlelight. Very cozy and staff and food are extraordinary. A little pricey but well worth it. more
