I think that the salsa and the queso dip were both purchased at a grocery store. The food was way below par. The ambience and drinks were both good but that is all I can recommend...

Ol mexico my favorite restaurant 11/11/2010

My fiance and I Love this place, it has the best Mexican food in the twin cities and it is reasonably priced. You have the freedom to create your own combination or order one of their suggested menu items. I usually have a chimichanga with rice and beans and always have plenty left over to take home. I had my friends surprise 30th birthday in the party room and it was a huge success. I have come to know some of the staff and they great! I strongly recommend, it is a great night out plus they always seem to have some kind of special going on. more

Great Food, Price, Service and a Great Place to Have a Party 4/19/2010

I have been to Ol' Mexico several times for both family dining and Happy Hour. Most recently I hosted a baby shower there and can I just say it was outstanding! Pros: Food, Price, Employees, Atmosphere, Nice Patio Cons: Lighting is a little Dark more

Great Mexican food -With a great atmosphere too! 2/20/2010

The food was a great experience- Love the maragritas and the bartenders don't skimp on the alcohol like lots of other places. The servers earn their tips ( unless you're a cheapskate DS and don't leave one) I'd love to work there just for the fun it looks like one could have-I'm to old though, although I have many friends that are servers and they make more money then a 9-5 so called"" non-shitty job"". I'd take the serving and being able to socialize at the sometime, making more money then I would looking like a monkey- What could be better. Pros: The food- drinks-Great service more

Mediocre food, weak drinks, worse service 11/5/2009

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants years ago, but the last two times I've gone the food has been mediocre, and recently my friend and I both commented that their margaritas were weak. A disappointment considering it has such potential. Pros: Great potential, nice decor Cons: Weak drinks, terrible service more

Great place when silver spoon not working 11/3/2009

A bussness like this you think it would be a bout money and that means take care of customers people don`t come there no more because of certian employee`s and you have to know because of money made when they work looked at these comments and just can`t believe you would let a place be run like that you have some of the best help and some of the worse and should take a good look family or not because is going to catch up sooner then later the way see it going too bad for place at one time was so good !!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: some of employee`s Cons: wheater silver spoon has had good or bad day more

Great prices and portions 9/28/2009

Very compairable to food I've eaten while in the south west. Consistant and tastie! Pros: Food, drinks, service, mgmt Cons: far from where I live more

Woudn't go back at gunpoint! 8/14/2009

Ok, when we arrived, the place was hopping. The hostess greeted us warmly and on our way to the table, said ""You're in luck, the Mariachi band is just starting!"" Pros: The Mariachi band knew ""the Macarena"" Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! more

Great Food, Better Staff 8/7/2008

I had read some reviews on sites like this one that had mixed opinions about the food taste and wait staff attentiveness, but being as we were in the mood for mexican food, we decided to try for ourselves. Pros: Large, immediate seating, attentive waiter, great margaritas! Cons: none so far! more

Mediocre food, waiter disappeared 7/27/2008

Tried it 3 times. Bland food. Margaritas are huge to hid fact they are weak. Last time I specifically mentioned we were in a hurry, ordered immediately, got food, and we never saw our waiter again. I had to walk around to find someone to pay. Other patrons were lined up in the lobby trying to find someone to pay so they could leave. The waitstaff just disappeared! Pros: Large Cons: Bland Mexican food, waiter vanished more

Great Service, Great Mexican Food, Tons of Seating 2/25/2008

If you're looking for a casual dining experience with excellent food, this is the place. The food was some of the best Mexican food I've had in quite a while. We went on a Friday Night and didn't have to wait to be seated due in large part to their large dining area. The service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the meal was resonably priced. (about $8-$15 a plate) The only thing I would advise is piecing together your meal as opposed to ordering the prearranged, ""numbered"" meals. You can get the same exact meal for cheaper this way. Pros: Great food, clean environment, Great Service Cons: Drinks are high priced more

Great food and great service 1/11/2008

We've been frequenting Ol' Mexico for years, and the hot salsa and margaritas are wonderful! Service has always been great. Management is kind of full of themselves, but the food is always hot, drinks are always cold, and we always go back. I've lived in the Southwest for most of my life, and Ol' Mexico's food challenges many of the Mexican restaurants down there. Love it! Recommend it! Pros: Food, drinks, service Cons: Stuck up management more

Worst example of Mexican food 11/25/2007

I used to live in the Roseville area for many years and always enjoyed the food at Ol Mexico immensly. We moved out of the area a few years ago but this weekend we were back visiting friends and decided to go to Ol Mexico for dinner. What a disappointment! I ordered a numero uno which is a taco and a cheese enchilada and my husband orded a taco salad. Neither dish had much flavor. Not only had the price increased dramatically, but the quality of the food was terrible. It tasted like bar b que sauce! The meal used to come with rice and beans but now it is a choice of either or. Even my husband who never complains about anything said his taco salad was the worst he ever had. I took a taste of it and had to agree that in nobody's imagination did it taste anything like a taco salad. I am sad to say that we will never go back there again. The one thing I will say in defense of the restaurant is that they did take $5 off the bill when we voiced our disappointment in the quality of the food. Even with that I will have to say the Ol Mexico I used to love so much is evidently a thing of the past. Pros: No waiting Cons: Terrible food more

horrible food 10/13/2007

The drinks at Ol Mexico were very good, but that is where it ends. This place was quite possibly the worst meal I have ever eaten. 1st-the guacamole had a brown tint, which indicates that it was sitting out. We attempted to get past the brown tint to find out that it was an avocado cream, there were no spices in it at all. The salsa tasted like it was really watered down store bought salsa--awful. I had the fajitas, which included the brown tinted guacamole. The only saving point with the fajitas was the inclusion of pico where there was an actual leaf of cilantro and a jalapeno bits, I was at least able to taste some mexican spice. My husband got the tostada and a taco, both of which included ground beef that had NO seasoning. It was horrible, we would have got more authentic Mexican food if I had gone to Taco Bell. Pros: drinks, service Cons: FOOD!! all of it. more

Poor treatment from management 6/29/2007

I grew up in the Roseville area and have visited this restaurant for over 20 years. The prices have increased dramatically over time, but I always returned for the convenient location and halfway decent food. Pros: Convienent location Cons: Poor treatment from management, slow service, very dark interior, poor value for the money more

Best Happy Hour anywhere! 4/5/2007

Cheap large beers, lots of free food. Service is good. Great place for afterwork, with a few co-workers or friends. more

Virgin margaritas, whether you want one or not 7/11/2006

I stopped in on a hot Saturday afternoon to have a margarita. After ordering a tall regular blended margarita, I sat back to enjoy. Having only 15-20 minutes to spare, the tall probably wasn't the smartest choice. But being the trooper I am, I managed to quaff it all down. The taste was great, but after drinking that large of a drink that quickly you would think that you'd be on your way to Margaritaville fast, I wasn't. I asked the bartender if he forgot to add the tequila, to which he replied, ""They all are premixed and have booze in them."" and walked away. Well I can guarantee you that one did not, but being in a pinch for time I wasn't going to press the issue. The moral of the story is, if you want a good margarita with tequila go to Boca Chica. Pros: Convient location, lots of parking Cons: Disappointing service and drinks from a place that used to be known for both more

Booted Out 5/8/2006

I would agree that Ol' Mexico has a wonderful ambiance, but guest service is low on their priority. Children are unwelcome both to the buffet and to make a mess at the table. The so-called owner of the place and his family are disrespectful to all of their customers. If you tip the waitresses not enough- which by the way Mr. Owner is not required by law- they will complain to the owner whom is related to them. You will be asked to leave for not tipping enough. The MHD should visit this hole each day until he is shut down. Servers after their less than perfect service are expected to be largley tipped for bringing you soda to your table. Cons: bad service, children unwelcome more

Nice decor, bad food 3/19/2006

I think that the salsa and the queso dip were both purchased at a grocery store. The food was way below par. The ambience and drinks were both good but that is all I can recommend it for. Pros: decor Cons: Food was bad more

A Mexican Sports Bar... 12/1/2005

I've been going to the Ol' Mex off and on for years. It's a sports bar with Mexican food and about 75 televisions. I will say that the service is consistently horrible: 19-year-old girls who couldn't care less about you, with ZERO personality, not very welcoming. To give you an idea of the food quality, keep in mind that the only hot sauce in the restaurant is Tabasco, which may be good for Minnesotans, but it's not even made in Mexico, it's not hot, and it tastes terrible. Everything else comes from a can, smothered in cheese and sour cream. Even the chips and salsa are below average. They do have a free happy hour buffet from 4-7. Pros: for sports lovers, smoking bar, patio Cons: terrible service, bland food, no hot sauce more

My favorite 5/25/2005

This is my favorite mexican resturant in town. Always good food and good service. I love the shreaded beef tacos! Many different flavored magaritas too! Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food, Friendly Cons: Dark, Can be smokey more
