Edmond's own Oklahoma Gold Gymnastics is one of the state's finest athletic training facilities. It is developed from the vision of owners Steve and Kim Hoehner.Oklahoma Gold opened in 1996 and has expanded several times over the years. In 2000, we expanded our current facility which is now a total of 22,000 square feet, separating pre-school children from recreational kids."A lot of parents will come in and say, 'how will this teach my child gymnastics?' This looks like it is a lot of fun," Hoehner said.Hoehner said they do want it to be fun environment for children, but at the same time to teach them how to use their muscles.Former Oklahoma Gold instructor Mark Williams, who is currently the Head coach of the University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team, said the facilities at Oklahoma Gold are state of the art. Mark went on to say," I worked with Steve in the early days of Oklahoma Gold as an instructor of the boys' team. I could tell early on that (Steve) reall y had a passion for helping these young kids develop into quality athletes."While working as an instructor at Oklahoma Gold, Williams, along with Hoehner coached Olympic silver medalist Guard Young, who went on to join Williams OU staff. Young Said he did gymnastics because he enjoyed the sport, which is what makes Oklahoma Gold one of the elite training facilities.Hoehner said Oklahoma Gold is good for all athletes, not just gymnasts..
