Great Exhibits 9/24/2005

I really loved this museums recent exhibits. They had an impressionist exhibit with some very beautiful works from some of the greatest and most well known artists. They also had a very interesting blown glass exhibit with some truely beautiful pieces. This museum has some very famous and excellent exhibits and the admission price is very reasonable. more

Art for the Modernist 9/2/2005

In the heart of downtown stands, a modern treasure called the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. It is located across from the city government, but makes the strongest impression. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art has adhered to the fundamental purpose set forth by its predecessor, the Oklahoma Art League, in 1910: "…to foster a love and a taste for art and to establish a permanent museum of art." The Museum includes something to people of all tastes. It includes the: The Donald W. Reynolds Visual Arts Center opened in 2002. This three-story, 110,000 sq. ft. facility features 15 galleries, 3 education rooms, a library/resource center, a store, a cafe, and the 252-seat Noble Theatre. The Museum Cafe’s metropolitan ambiance, superb cuisine, and exceptional service bring a taste of Chicago, San Francisco, and London to Oklahoma City. The full-service restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, offers fine dining with a French-fusion menu prepared fresh daily, ranging from Pepper Seared Tilapia and Grilled Asparagus Panini (a Museum favorite) for lunch to Radiatore Pasta and Veal Chops for dinner to a Sunday Brunch including Quiche Lorraine and Stuffed Blintz. Exhibits such as The Chihuly Collection, which includes: • 1,500 pieces of hand-blown glass • 18 glass installations, including walls, ceiling, cases, and groupings • Sixty 4' x 8' sheets of black Plexiglas • 2 fishing boats imported from Finland • 3 white bark silver maple logs • Ten 12-inch high stages (platforms) • 28 moveable walls • 3 enclosed cases, containing Seaform sets • 226 sq. ft. shatter proof glass ceiling for 40 ft. long Persian Ceiling display • 290 light fixtures Traveling Exhibits such as the Holocaust Remembrance and other modern works. One of the unique things about the museum is that sometimes the films will correspond with the exhibits, making for a richer experience for a patron. The Gift Shop is the place to get items to remember the experience with. It is huge, to say the least, and normal tourist pricing does prevail. The gift shop has everything from post cards to art for sale, so any patron can pick up something within their price range. Education is a huge component of the museum. The public can take classes ranging from drawing to filmmaking. The youth program is one of the best in the city. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is a great place to learn about art, or to take in a movie with a message. It is fun for the whole family while keeping the pricing reasonable. more
