Ohlin's Bakery

I ordered a cake here for my son's birthday party. It was one of those character cakes. On the morning I went to pick the cake up, I arrived and they told me the couldn't get me the kind of decorations I'd ordered and that I'd have to pick a different character set. They never called me to tell me there was a problem with the order. So, I picked a different decoration set - not a huge deal, my son would be happy with any of the choices. Then they made me wait for the baker to come in to finish the decorations on the cake. I was left standing there for 25 minutes until the baker arrived. And literally all he did was to take these little stick figures from a package and put them on top of the cake. I could have done that myself and saved half an hour. Not to mention the whole thing looked sloppy and rushed. Had I not prepaid for the whole thing at the time of the order, I would have walked out and gone to Shaws and picked up something there. And the worst part of the whole experience was that not once did they appologize for the delay, the inconvenience or the service. Unacceptable. I will never go there again. more

People who rave about Krispy Kreme have obviously never been to Ohlins. It is OH so delicious. Their glazed donut is a classic and is absolutely delicious. They also have really good bagels (nice and thick, not all doughy fluff). They have all kinds of other cakes and cookies, too, plus a selection of coffees to go along with your baked goods. Check out the Day Old section for some potentially super deals on stuff. They are right in Cushing Square, but parking along Common Street can be alittle bit challenging at peak times (side streets are not a problem if you don't mind walking a little). They can get very busy, but the service is fairly efficient and friendly. This is my bet for the best donuts in Boston (I can resist a donut, but not an Ohlins donut). more
