The Skinny
Choosing upscale for resale is a risky proposition; so tip your second-hand Kangol cap to the creators that opened this shop in affluent Westlake --acknowledging that while this unexceptional space falls well short of the hip bass-thumping aesthetics of a Gap locale, the creativity lies in the mission. Here exists the only notable teen second-hand shop in Northeast Ohio.
The Sale
So how do you lure minors from a mall and into a strip store? Pump some "retro" Joan Jett through the speakers (a virtual octogenarian to the teen clerks), roll out some Abercrombie & Fitch shirts, Doc Marten shoes, racks and racks of trendy tartan skirts and allowance-friendly formal dresses that top out at $40. Shelve some accessories--including jewelry, purses and handbags--along with scarves, headbands and compact discs. And then there's this lone set of Cliff's Notes for "The Red Badge of Courage," wedged deep behind some dog-eared Nancy Drew paperbacks. Call us crusty, but in these times of pierced tongues and ass-shaking adolescents, its good to know somebody's still reading Nancy Drew.
