Great food- decent service! 11/22/2008

My husband and I frequent O'Connors. I've never had a meal there that I didn't think was fabulous. They also have a great wine list that isn't too pricey. My husband LOVES their hush puppies and I love their Multnomah melt. Our servers are always really nice, the only times our service is dicey is at time when the restaurant's busy and they happen to be understaffed (not the servers fault). Overall I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great meal and good drinks! Pros: Server friendliness, food, and drinks. Cons: Parking can be irritating. more

Good hushpuppies are not enough!!! 7/11/2008

My husband and I went to O?Connor?s the other night for dinner. We had been there years before and were in the area so thought we would try it again. The only thing I remembered were the hushpuppies. After a visit last year to the South, I am in love with hushpuppies and O?Connor?s are some of the best in town. They were big, round and dense with the perfect corn consistency and served with a spicy jalapeno onion relish. That is where the love stops. My husband and I both read the reviews prior to going and had seen what other people?s complaints were. Our service was fine. Our waitress was nice enough and we weren?t forgotten, but they definitely don?t go out of their way to be friendly. I had the Cajun chicken club sandwich which was nice; however, a little lacking in the chicken. Only one side of the sandwich actually had any chicken. My husband?s burger was just okay. You can probably get better burgers a lot of other places. The kicker for us was the soda we ordered. It was served in a glass full of ice slightly larger than a juice glass and for $1.50 you do not get any refills. Seriously? Not even a can?s worth of soda for $1.50? Crazy. I think I will continue looking for great hushpuppies around town. Pros: Great hushpuppies! Cons: Indifferent staff. Just okay food. more

horrible 3/20/2008

Both the food and the service are terrible. A guy on the plane recommened this place and I wish I had gone somewhere else. more

I LOVE the staff! 3/12/2008

I love O'Connor's. I go there often and I was surprised to read some of the reviewers who hate the staff. I LOVE the staff! It is true that on occasion the place has seemed a little under-manned, but the wait-people has always been great every time I have been there. I will agree that there seems to be a problem there with who will answer the phone.. sometimes I have been there and the phone rings on and on and no one answers it. That is a little disconcerting but quite honestly I have gotten used to it. This place sure isn't Olive Garden..it is quirky and I for one love the non-homogenized atmosphere. The food is always dependably good and interesting. I'd give it five stars, but there is that ringing phone. Pros: Quirky individual atmosphere and attentive staff Cons: unanswered ringing telephone more

Always Good 12/23/2007

We've been going to O'Connor's at least once a week for nearly a year and a half, for breakfast and dinner, and never experienced any of the problems above. Yes, there can be a wait when it's busy. We go at eight am on the weekend and avoid the rush, after seven weeknights. Faves: one of the few places in town that serves nearly authentic cajun. Cajun oyster club, always good. Open till two on the weeknights, perfect for an after concert dinner or nightcap. Great Manhattan, too, their bartender knows what he's doing. So, all I can say, go in with a positive attitude, and you'll get great service and food. Never been disappointed. more

Good food - Service can be hit-and-miss 4/30/2007

My husband, daughter and I go to O'Connors for weekend breakfast at least twice a month. Our food and service have always been excellent (yummy home-fries!) but previous commenters are right - the servers can be moody. More than once we've seen our speedy and genial server become sullen and downright rude when addressing other patrons....I don't know what it is but I'm glad we've been lucky thus far (knock on wood). Pros: Good breakfast, drinks, atmosphere, lovely deck Cons: unreliable service, parking more

Great Service and Ambiance.. food touch and go! 1/19/2007

The 1st time I went here I had the best breakfast Experience. Joe's Omelet! It was big, stuffed, fluffy - cooked just right (not over done & krispy on outside). The service was great. Home fried potatos yummy. But I brought a friend and went a 2nd time & it was shwag! The corned beef hash was home made but had this weird anise flavor. The home fried potatos were cold and tasted like they were in a pan w/ pine sol residue. I asked for some new ones & what I got was reheated potatoes - same stale, pine sol flavor. The hush puppies were home made, pretty good but could have been cooked a little longer. I did really like their jalapeno jelly! Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: food unpredictable more

Great spot for breakfast 9/15/2006

We have eaten at O'Connor's several times in the past few weeks and the food and service have been great. The breakfast menu is extensive, with both traditional and creative choices. The server was friendly and efficient. We will be returning many more times. Pros: Great menu, easy-going atmosphere Cons: Noisy when it is busy more

I love this place 4/4/2005

I have been to O'Connors about five times now for breakfast and I love this place. The breakfast specials are very creative with the ingredients and the food has always been excellent. The only draw back is the service is not that goos but the food and Boloody Mary's are worth it. more

Patron 5/2/2004

I've been a big fan of O'Connors for a while. Nice location, big portions, and a good menu. The enchiladas are better than the mexican restaurant 'round the corner. I love the food, and order to go often. Especially, when in a hurry - as the wait staff is often slow. Pros: Good food, Cozy bar more

Service? Not here! 11/17/2002

I have never wanted to slap a waitress so bad in my life! We sat down, watched the waitess look at us, and then walk away for the next ten minutes. Finally she came to get our drink order. A tip: drink slowly, because they won't get you a refill. We ordered food; she screwed up our order. We waited almost twenty minutes to get the bill. Seriously, they can't get a more ambitious wait staff? The food was pretty good, but it wasn't worth the hassle. Two thumbs down! Pros: food is decent, good mixed drinks Cons: Mean waitresses, lazy waitresses, inattentive service more

Worst Service in Town! 9/23/2002

This place is an absolute tragedy. I mean, the food is among the best offered in Southwest Portland, but it is not worth putting up with the rude and lazy service. Seriously, the last time we went we sat at the door for several minutes before being seated. We then waited nearly ten minutes before even getting our drinks ordered. Our food order took even longer. To top it all off, as we waited to pay, we watched our waitress look at us, assume we were still eating and then head outside for a cigarette. This was the last time we will ever waste our time here. The wait staff is a bunch of lazy old women with little ambition or zest for life. I wish the owner only knew how bad these people really are. A real shame... Pros: Great ribs, nice location Cons: service is atrocious, waitresses are rude more
