one of my favorite chinese resturants.. 10/5/2005

whenever i go to Ocean Star either for dim sum or dinner. Its usually a very good experiance when i come to this restaurant. They have plenty of room almost always ready to seat you. Their food presentation is top notch and very tasty. They are always ready to sevice you and they do a good job at it too! more

authentic and delicious 9/26/2005

If you ever want to try authentic Chinese Dim Sum, you have to go to this restaurant. This place is always crowded and you always have to wait to be seated. We went one time and waited an hour to be seated. The food is very inexpensive so go hungry. The restaurant is very big and since many customers are all packed in one large room, the noise is very loud. The food servers come around pushing their carts with different dim sum dishes and you point at what you want. more

One of the "Better" Places for Chinese 8/28/2005

If you would like to try something other than Sam Woo dim sum without sacrificing quality, Ocean Star would be a great place to start. The food here is nearly identical to Sam Woo's in terms of taste and MSG. The location of the shop is quite convenient as well; if you need to buy a gift for a friend while fulfilling your craving for Starbucks, then this restaurant is more than perfect for you. more

Great food 8/28/2005

The food is great! Much better than other chinese restaurants. The price is the usual common asian restaurant price so nothing surprising there. One thing to try is their dim sum. I'm not sure if there is a special chef in the kitchen or what, but the dim sum is one of the best! The location is great, things to do after-wards...and yeah give it a try. more

Dim Sum!!! 8/20/2005

If you are a fan of Dim Sum than Ocean Star is the restaurant for you. This is a great restaurant for the family. They have some of the more popular Dim Sum food including shrimp balls and noodles dipped in an awesome sauce. Although it may be crowded at times this restaurant offers good food at a good price. more

The Dimsum Hub 8/12/2005

I love this place, it resides in my teenage and childhood memories of where my family goes for dimsum. The place is usually crowded on sunday afternoons, but the food is definitely worth the wait. My parents usually likes to come to this place a little earlier before lunch when it is not so crowded. This place is huge! There are many rows of tables, so it's not a very quiet atmosphere during the busy time. My favorite item has always been the shumai and shrimp rice noodle rolls. I highly recommend this place for the dimsum experience. This place is part of my memory. more

Good Chinese food 8/11/2005

This restaurant always has a long line of people waiting to be seated even though it's a very large place that accommodates many. Prepare for a very long wait on weekends for dim sum. The popularity probably stems from the fact that the food is very good and it's served quickly to your table. The atmosphere is loud, crowded, and not very relaxing, but the food and price make up for those problems. Parking at ground or top level is not easy in the shopping center, but there is an underground parking lot. more

Great for Dim-Sum 8/4/2005

Monterey Park is known for their inexpensive, but wonderfully delicious Chinese restaurants. Although it is priced on the higher end, Ocean Star is considered one of the best Dim Sum restaurants in the area. They offer a variety of food. The service is not very good and most of the waiters don’t speak English. But they are willing to show you the dishes, and I just point to the ones that I like. The popularity and reputation for their good food is evident by their long lines. However, the restaurant is very big, so you don’t usually have to wait too long. Either way, the wait is worth it. more

Terrific, authentic dim sum and seafood 7/15/2005

The San Gabriel Valley has a huge and growing population of Chinese-Americans, many first generation and recent immigrants included. One result of this is that it has become a haven for outstanding, authentic, inexpensive Chinese food. Monterey Park is at the center of this foodie's delight, and Ocean Star is one of the busiest, best-known of the large, Hong Kong banquet hall restaurants. Through lunchtime, it's a dim sum palace--serving a seemingly infinite number of different types of dumplings and other treats. I could not keep track of all the sublime food being served so I just gave up and enjoyed the ride. Most of the clientele are local residents, as are the staff who do not speak much English. It was easier to just try a dish than get an explanation of what it was, which was okay since it was all delicious. For dinner the place is a seafood lovers paradise with lobster, crab and shrimp dishes abounding, and even more exotic fare like conch soup. There are a large number of excellent restaurants in the Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel area, and Ocean Star is one of the best. For dim sum, if you arrive after noon, you may wait for up to an hour. Better to get there before 11:30am. more
