A little over 2 years ago I selected Oakdale Heights for my mom. From that date the previous ownership let the place run down and there was a year or so of many problems and unhappiness.
After 2 years of hard work and reinvesting the revenue, the new owners have upgraded the facility and the staff are much improved and overall it is now a very good facility. Menu choices and food quality much improved. Lots of events and activities. New shuttle bus, well attended exercise sessions. The memory care section has been upgraded and modernized. The place looks and smells clean. People put their trash outside their door so they won't be disturbed by a daily trash pick up.
With seniors, with anyone, there is always something that doesn't meet someone's expectations, and there will always be an issue or two (that's life) but for most people who evaluate the total picture, Oakdale Heights is a good place to live.
Even though the price just went up 10%, it is still a very good value. If you have super high expectations, want near perfection and the ultimate in luxury, food, accommodations, activities and facilities, be prepared to pay twice (or more) what Oakdale charges and look in La Jolla, La Costa, Palm Desert, La Quinta, etc. You will get your money's worth at Oakdale Heights.
