Let me start by admitting that nearly all mechanic shops are the same, if they can make you pay for unnecessary repairs, they will. NYC Tire isn't any different.
On Saturday, September 8th, I 'overheated' and my radiator hose blew off. I called AAA and NYC Tire came to tow me expediciously. I was happy. The shop promised me an they would analyze my car expediciously. I was happy. About two hours later I was told and given an estimate for a new fan assembly, a new thermostat and a fan relay for just short of $900 including labor. After about an hour of back-and-forth debating ending in raised voices (mostly mine admittedly), I was told that they were officially refusing to service my vehicle and were putting it on the street out front. I was also told that they put my hose back on and refilled my antifreeze but were going to be gracious enough to not charge me for it.
Fast forward to Monday morning when I took my car to my mechanic who then checked the vehicle, took out a blown fan fuse and replaced it. He charged me $10. Not only was it just a fuse that was the problem but he informed me that there was not a DROP of antifreeze in my car and the reservoir was dry.(meaning I did not have a leak either). So, not only was I lied to about them graciously re-filling my fluid for free but I was severely taken advantage of....ALMOST! There is a huge difference between a $900 repair and a $10 repair. Being a woman, I am HIGHLY offended that I was taken advantage of. Thank goodness I have some common sense about things or else I would have fallen for the NYC Tire okey-doke. Drivers beware!
For the record, today is Thursday, almost a week after the incident, and my car is still running fine with driving 26 miles total a day for work.
