I really wanted to like the NESC, but with what happened to us, I for one will not go back. Once burned - twice shy.
My fiance and I both ordered hamburgers, with mine to be cooked medium, and hers well-done. Both came looking well-done (though hers was a little more so than mine). Not being a fried-chile fan, my sweetie gave her chiles to me.
The waitress and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Sadly, about eight or so hours later, I was sick, and had a rough night. The next day, I had a 100+ fever, and continued to have diarrhea and stomach pains. Both of us were very weak, though I was more affected than my finance (was it the chiles, of which I had most and she had only one?). This was the only meal that the two of us shared in more than a week, so it was very clear where the problem came from.
I called the Social the following week, and the manager's response was that he was sorry and that it had never happened before. He made no offer to make it better (and I hadn't asked for that - I told him that I just wanted to report the problem). He wasn't totally skeptical or dismissive, just a tad. I did not get the feeling that he was planning on doing anything about it (verify sanitary practices, discuss with staff, see if others had heard of similar problems), but just go on with business.
Too bad, maybe if I felt he took it more seriously, I would have been tempted to try them again, but for now, I will caution anyone from dining there.
Pros: Nice ambiance, interesting food
Cons: Made me sick
