Food poisoning 6/22/2010

I really wanted to like the NESC, but with what happened to us, I for one will not go back. Once burned - twice shy. My fiance and I both ordered hamburgers, with mine to be cooked medium, and hers well-done. Both came looking well-done (though hers was a little more so than mine). Not being a fried-chile fan, my sweetie gave her chiles to me. The waitress and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Sadly, about eight or so hours later, I was sick, and had a rough night. The next day, I had a 100+ fever, and continued to have diarrhea and stomach pains. Both of us were very weak, though I was more affected than my finance (was it the chiles, of which I had most and she had only one?). This was the only meal that the two of us shared in more than a week, so it was very clear where the problem came from. I called the Social the following week, and the manager's response was that he was sorry and that it had never happened before. He made no offer to make it better (and I hadn't asked for that - I told him that I just wanted to report the problem). He wasn't totally skeptical or dismissive, just a tad. I did not get the feeling that he was planning on doing anything about it (verify sanitary practices, discuss with staff, see if others had heard of similar problems), but just go on with business. Too bad, maybe if I felt he took it more seriously, I would have been tempted to try them again, but for now, I will caution anyone from dining there. Pros: Nice ambiance, interesting food Cons: Made me sick more

Great experience, will be back 3/2/2010

We visited Northeast Social Club last night for dinner. It happened to be Restaurant Week, so we both selected the set menu, which was delicious. The beef carpaccio was perfectly thin with delicious high-quality olive oil drizzled over the top. The salad with peas and bacon was good, although slightly over-dressed. The entree, a braised short rib with spinach and mashed potato, was to die for. The dessert was inventive (honey rosemary panna cotta) and delicious. \r \r Even though the restaurant isn't in our neighborhood, it will certainly become our new ""neighborhood"" restaurant. Look forward to visiting again soon. Pros: Cozy feeling, great server (Richard), consistently good food more

Not even good enough for my worst enemy 9/30/2009

Arrived at 7PM. Four of us ordered a Medium steak...it came alive. Recieved the second try at 10pm. The waitress asked if there was anything that could be done to ensure that we left with a positive experience. We requested to talk with the manager so we could figure out an appropriate solution. The owner came over and proceeded to speak to us in a condecending and rude manner. We would have been happy to receive an ""i'm sorry. how can we make this better?"" but instead we were told we were rude. He told us that appropriate customers would have sent the steaks back to be cooked further. In fact, it was the waitress who recommended that they make new plates for us (which is what any quality establishment would do). He also told us that they cook all of their steaks at medium rare (even though our waitress asked how we wanted them prepared). I understand why they would want to cook the meat at that temperature - it was very poor quality meat with a lot of chewy fat throughout. In all my years of Minneapolis dining - never have I been treated so rudely or been served such poor quality cuisine. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst emeny. Pros: none? Cons: Poor cooking, appaling owner, slow service more
