I cannot say that the teachers at North Shore Child Care- Kings Kids Academy, are not good with the children because my child loved the teachers. The issue arose when I received a phone call telling me that my daughter had lice. I have not ever had lice or even seen them in my life and I was very upset to find this out. I treated her and they reoccurred. I was very upset but after doing some research I found out that lice outbreaks are occurring more frequently than in the past and I loaded up on tips to prevent the occurrence to my child in the future. Although I was disgusted with the lice issue, the real problem is with the director of the child care program, Sherry Portillo. She is very unprofessional and made me feel as if my child brought lice in. I made the acquaintance of another parent who went through the same scenario a few weeks before myself. Her child had been coming home with her hair re-arranged and one day she came home with lice. When Sherry was confronted she made it seem as if it was their fault. Why not help educate that parent if they are telling you it is their first time dealing with lice and you claim you have dealt with it many times? If you know the great possibility is that the lice is being spread in the facility why isn't there screening information? It is illegal to keep information that could affect a child's health to yourself if you are responsible for the program. She could have very easily given people fair warning along with educational materials to help prevent lice in the first place. It is very unprofessional, and very unbecoming of a director of a program that teaches the values of the Bible to sneak behind the parents' back with information that is relevant to their child's health.
