Best Animal Care Around 11/29/2011

North Shore Animal Hospital provides the best animal care around. Not only do they have gracious and concerned staff, they go above and beyond any vet service I have had during the past 30 years. They recommended testing at the Vet School in Madison when they were at a loss for answers, they recommended other specialists as well. Most importantly, they are open to any and all concerns you have and answer your questions in laymans terms that you can understand. I will always thank them for their concern for my animals. I recommend them to everyone I know. This practice has become family to me and my furkids and I will ALWAYS bring the kids to them. more

Poor service, rude managers, can't help my pet 7/30/2009

This place is a total joke. They are way over priced! They charge a records fee! Yes a RECORDS FEE for just having your cat or dog listed in a file in their office. I have never had a vet do that before! On top of it the problem we had with our dog was not taken care of. The vet was afraid to upset the dog to properly do an exam. The dog would squirm and the vet just kept giving him treats. A puppy that gets too many treats can lead to diarehea the vet should have known 5 treats later! What does that matter to her. We had to deal with him at home not her! Instead of holding the dog with help from me and my husband, then doing the exam to find out what was going on. She never finished the exam saying she did not want to stress out the dog. She never even checked his health like a vet does in a regular exam. This was her first time seeing him! We paid for other things to be done along with the exam which was not properly done in my opinion. To top it off the regular exam price went up $15 dollars since they felt it was not just a regular exam since we came in with a question about the dog that was something more than just a regular exam. I never heard of exams being in different catagories with different prices! After a week (and a big bill) the antibiotics did not work fully we called back to go in again to see what other antibiotics she could maybe give our dog. They wanted to charge us for everything to be done again that we already had done the week before! When I said fine, but do we get a discount since this was just done a week ago and chances are you will find nothing new. They said no we charge what we charge no revisit discount. We just had these tests done last week! I had a really good vet in the past, and sadly we moved. With my old vet if you came in within a couple weeks of seeing him and had the same problem he would normally only charge you half of what the original exam fee was since you are coming in for the same issue. Esp. when all the vet would be able to do is just look at the dog not run any tests and just give a guess that maybe this medicine will work this time. That is all North Shore was going to be able to do, and they wanted to charge the same price and not give any discount at all! I then asked to speak to the office manager. All she was worried about was getting the dog another puppy shot. Which we had done already she did not know that though. Nice she kept changing the subject when the real matter was the antibiotics that were not working. Why would I pay you yet another $40 for an exam that he does not need and an additional $20-$30 for a shot I could go to my old vet and get for $15! She then went on to ask who was going to give the rabies shot when it would be needed? I told her there is a place that I can go to that will neuter my dog for $60 and give a free rabies shot with the neuter. Better than what you charge $300 and $40 for yet another exam we will not need and $20-30 for a rabies shot I can get for free from another licensed vet. hmmm $360 or $60 what would you pick? I found it really amazing she kept talking about what I needed in the future than what was going on now with the dog. She would not answer my questions as to how they charge people for the same price for the same exam a week later. First person I spoke to told me I should expect to be charged $700-$800 the first year of owning a puppy! That is not true unless you have a sick puppy. I am traveling back to my old vet. I will make a day of it. In the end extra gas money, his exam, antibiotics and tests are still cheaper than going to North Shore! Plus I will see actual results! Now that is really sad on North Shores part! So much for finding a vet near me! Cons: over priced, rude, can't figure out problems with pets more
