Good deal if you know what you're getting. 9/26/2009

In September 09 I purchased a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr from North Coast Auto. Below are my impressions of the experience (plus a little advice). (1) They sell late model, upscale cars at very good prices. Most cars have had accidents, hence the low prices. Once you’ve found a couple cars you like, spend the $40 and get a month of CARFAX. Read each report carefully; it will probably tell you where the car was serviced after the accident – so call them. I did; they checked their records and told me what parts were replaced after the accident. From this I determined that the damage was not serious. Additionally, NCA gave me a letter from an independent body shop stating that the frame is OK. (2) Ask the salesman to come down a bit (but don’t be greedy). Even though they had just dropped their asking price the week before they dropped another 2% for me. Note to eBayers: If they’re asking $20k, the reserve is pretty close to that. Don’t bid $18k then sit around with your fingers crossed. You may be high bidder but you’re not getting that car. (3) NCA is pretty disorganized. Everybody I encountered there was very busy; it’s a classic case of understaffing. Don’t try to call them – they don’t answer. Best bet is to text them, they’ll call back . . . . eventually. (4) Allow four hours to pick up your car – I don’t care what they told you the day before; It won’t be ready! (5) Take your time when you test drive. They don’t mind. My wife and I drove a few miles, parked the car and looked it all over. We were gone 35 minutes. If you don’t like the car, be prepared to walk away. Better yet, have another car in mind. (6) Don’t expect the car to be perfectly detailed. This place works on high volume and low margins. I averaged the retail prices generated at KBB, NADA and Edmunds and bought my car for $5300 less. The next day, my wife and I spent a few hours cleaning and fixing a bunch of little problems. Next I spent some time with rubbing compound to even out those scratches that weren’t so obvious from the photos. Considering what I saved, it’s probably the best day’s work I’ve ever done. (7) Finally, if you want the friendly atmosphere and convenience of a full service dealership, you should look elsewhere. If you want to save 5k (or more) and don’t mind some inconvenience, this might be your best bet. Would I buy there again? Yeah, probably. I got a nice looking car that’s loaded with amenities and still has 8 months of factory warranty and all for a very good price. But you need to do your homework and understand that this is not a full service dealership. Don’t expect to buy a car for thousands under retail and then complain that the ashtray had a gum wrapper, and one of the visors is missing a screw. Pros: Great prices on late model, upscale cars Cons: Disorganized, car wasn't ready when promised. more

Stay away from NCA 7/29/2009

Hopefully you read these two comments below me before you do any business with NCA. They are dishonest, misleading and a total scam. Their cars are not anywhere near what they advertised on their website. When I purchased my car, this “arrogant” salesman showed me the CARFAX report that shows no prior accident history. I figured this is a good bargain, even though it has some minor dings and chips on the hood, but the price was attractive. About a month later, I noticed the car always pull to the right, so I had a four wheel alignment done. The next month, I had the same problem, so I had another four wheel alignment. This past week, after having five alignments done on the car, the guy said that I should probably have someone check the frame on the car to make sure there is nothing wrong with the frame. Sure enough, when I took it to a frame shop, they told me that the car had a frame damage and was repaired. The bad repair job caused my car not to drive straight. Had I known the car had a frame damage, I would never buy this car. This dealer should have known when they bought this car from the auction, but they didn't share that information with me. Instead they show me a clean CARFAX report. This dealership is very shady. Be very careful before you do any business with NCA. Cons: A total scam more

Frame damage on ebay 7/19/2009

What a scam. If you notice, they claim that their car is carfax certified but ""autocheck"" claims there is frame damage from the auction. They claim it is only a small problem. What a joke. A car that has frame damage at the auction was inspected by the auction and have been in a major accident but wasn't included in carfax records. It is in the fine print. Buyer beware. You can get the car much cheaper at dealer auction when it is announced as ""frame damage."" A legit dealer never buys those types of cars. Plus, who gets a bunch of their own people to write their own reviews. 5 different reviews on the same day???? How shady is that? Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

North Coast Auto are dishonest. STAY AWAY! 7/16/2009

I have never dealt with a shadier operation that this one. I bought a Chrysler 300 from these guys off of eBay and right from the start, it was a bad experience. Now I have purchased cars over eBay before, from private sellers and dealers, and the experience has always been at least satisfactory. With North Coast, there was no satisfactory involved. When I first called about the car to buy it at the Buy-It-Now price on a Saturday afternoon, I was assured by NCA contact Chris that he would get the paperwork to me on Monday. I had to fill that out and send it back and he could have the car shipped out to me in 24 hours. Great, right? Except not a bit of that was true. For starters, Monday came and went. So did Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. During this time, I called Chris, called other numbers I had for North Coast (where I was told to ""just hang in there buddy""), emailed and even texted Chris' phone. Every once in a while (probably a 10 to 1 ratio), I would get some response from Chris stating ""yes, the paperwork will go out today."" But that never seemed to happen. Mind you, I was persistent because I had put down a $400 deposit and could not get insurance or financing or anything started before they sent me the paperwork. On Friday of the 1st week, I sent Chris a text that said if I didn't get the paperwork by that day, he could keep the car and I'd look elsewhere. This was the same week that Chrysler went bankrupt so there were plenty of dealers looking to unload 300's. Well the ultimatum worked and the paperwork showed up Friday afternoon. By 10 o'clock Saturday morning I had financing set. But because NCA turned out to be a non-franchised dealer, the bank said they couldn't go ahead w/ the loan. Within three hours, I had another bank set with financing. Good to go, right? Wrong. It took more than a week and a half for them to get title information to the bank to actually complete the sale! That's with me calling, emailing, and texting them throughout the week as well as my bank. My loan officer said she had never see such a thing in all her years. So finally the sale was complete and the car was shipped. THIS WAS ONE DAY SHORT OF FOUR WEEKS SINCE I SAID ""I'LL BUY IT""!!! and it arrives at the house. Gas on E. Windshield washer fluid bone dry. Half vacuumed. Cup holders still filled with gunk. All four tires about 20 PSIs low. I mean they had it for nearly a month AFTER deposit and they couldn't detail it or even clean it???? Plus it was supposed to come with a GPS unit which never arrived and I know I'll never see. Did I mention it still took them nearly three more weeks to send me the title and I only had three days left on the temporary plates when it finally arrived? So far the car has been ok but has certainly seen rough times. The Carfax report on it said it was clean but I'm waiting for the next shoe to drop. Do not deal with North Coast Auto unless you can deal with an incredible amount of aggravation and shoddy delivery. They are awful! Pros: the price, and that's all Cons: Service, communication, professionalism, almost everything more

Buying my first car 6/20/2009

I was looking for a used car and other dealers were giving me the bate and switch. I went to North Coast Auto and told them what I was looking for. They did not have exactly what I wanted on the lot at the time. A week later a salesman named Mike S. gave me a call back about a car that met my requirements. When I went in the car was what they said. After that the rest of the process went smoothly. They gave me a fair price. It has been about four months now and the car is running great. more

Great Deal and Superior Customer Service 6/19/2009

My car buying experience with this dealership was by far the best experience I have had purchasing a car. About 18 months ago, I purchased a Porsche Cayenne Turbo with 25,000 mileage from NCA. The pictures were very detailed and descriptive. When I saw the car, there were no surprises – it looked identical to the pictures. While the papers were being processed, NCA’s staff was courteous to both my spouse and me. We enjoyed our cups of coffee made with a professional espresso machine, while relaxing on a couch. How much better can it get? I love my car – it is a BEAST on the road – and have not had any problems with it. I got a great deal and superior customer service, and I STRONGLY recommend this dealer! Pros: Low price Cons: NA more

Great price and great service. 6/19/2009

I have bought two cars from North Coast Auto in the past. They made the transaction easy and fast. The current car was sold to me by Mike, he was very easy to work with. You really can't find the quality and price that they give you. Pros: Price Cons: nothing more

Just a car dealer 5/11/2009

You want to think this dealer is different, but it is not. These guys, John and Chris, treat you like they are making a million dollars a year and have the ego's to prove it. They are not out to help you. You are just a vehicle for them to make money. It's sad that there are derelicts out there making so much money. Pros: Price Cons: Ego's more
