Art on a Rainy Day 3/29/2006

There is nothing more fun like spending a rainy day in an art museum. This one is no exception. Although it’s small, the North Carolina Museum of Art maintains a wonderful collection and there’s no admission fee (except for special exhibits). It’s a fun place to take the kids – all children should have the opportunity to learn to appreciate the fine arts. more

A great place to take visiting company.... 12/30/2005

Visiting the North Carolina Museum of Art is a great way to spend some time with visiting out of towner's. Our company is always amazed that the museum does not charge a fee. The permanent exhibits are excellent and they usually have temporary exhibits for a small fee. When either you're tired or hungry, the restaurant downstairs is a wonderful place to have lunch. more

Super Way to Spend A Day 12/11/2005

The NC Museum of Art has a nice permanent collection and often brings in really cool exhibitions. The permanent collection is always free. The sculpture garden is lovely in the spring and summer months. The museum has concerts and movies outside in the summertime as well. The temporary exhibitions are usually excellent and well worth the price of entry. They're now open til 9 on Friday nights, making the museum a great date spot. I really enjoy being able to stop in, wander a bit of the permanent collection in a spare half hour of my day, then come back later. If you're not as local, the guided tours and such can allow you to make a full day of it. more

Very impressive 9/14/2005

This art museum is a must for visitors to the area. The collections are very impressive. If you're like me, you would prefer to go downstairs and stay there! Best of all, its free! more

Great entertainment, FREE! 9/1/2005

I love that the North Carolina Museum of Art is free. It's such a great way to spend an afternoon, wandering through the permanent exhibits, and not spending a dime. (The traveling exhibits, which are usually quite good, do cost something--I believe it varies depending on the exhibit) Another great thing about the Museum is the movie series--what a fun thing to do with the family. Just bring a blanket and bug spray and enjoy a movie under the stars! (You can also bring your own food!) more

Art...inside and out 8/22/2005

The North Carolina Museum of Art has a fantastic collection of art. Inside there are works by all of the famous artist and an Egypt collection that is very interesting. Outside are sculptures. The museum also has traveling exhibits. They also offer outdoor movies and bands in the amphitheater. There is also a restaurant, but I have never eaten there. The gift shop has some nice items. more

Very Cool 8/20/2005

The North Carolina Museum of Art is a very nice art museum, but what really sets it apart is the community oriented activities they manage. On some weekends they will play movies outdoors--take a blanket, food, and BYOB--fun movies (often film festivals, as well as new releases), awesome locale, and a great price. I would highly recommend checking it out. more

good exhibits 8/18/2005

The North Carolina museum of art always has good exhibits. some are free, others are not. the people that work there are always friendly. This is a good place to take the kids on a field trip. they also show movies during the summer months. There is always plenty of parking also. more

good museum 8/18/2005

I like the North Carolina Museum of Art because there's always some new traveling exhibit coming through; one time there was a great Ansel Adams display, and another there was a Picasso/Van Gogh exhibit. There's also an amazing restaurant, which I highly recommend, as well as an outdoor amphitheater which attracts a variety of musical acts. Good activity for a Sunday afternoon. more

Love the movies! 8/18/2005

The North Carolina Museum Of Art is a great way to spend an afternoon. Kids won't necessarily appreciate the museum unless they have been brought up to enjoy it. But, depending on what is traveling through, I really enjoy it. Admission is free for the permanent collection. If you want to see a traveling exhibit (these are usually the best thing there) there is a charge (worth it!). Something kids do enjoy are the movies on the lawn in the summer. Just bring a blanket and your picnic basket along for a fun filled evening for all ages! more

small museum with large exhibits 8/7/2005

The North Carolina Art Museum is a first rate art museum at a decent price—free! For the permanent stuff that is. If you want to go to the special showings like Picasso, Rodin, Matisse, etc., you’ll have to fork over a good chunk of change, but typically the showings are much less big names, so the prices are fairly nominal. The restaurant downstairs serves pretty good food, but the prices are high. Best to be avoided if at all possible. The down side is that the museum is pretty small. Unlike the NY Met and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, you can really knock this museum out in an afternoon. But they do keep rotating showings pretty regularly, so there’s usually something new to see. more

great place to spend an afternoon 8/6/2005

the museuom of art is a great exhibit to peole who do not know a lot about art. the guides are helpful, even if there arenot a lot of them. i went there with a group of kids and they took their time looking at the array of artwork. the museum is easy to navigate and is filled with great exhibits. more

Must See 7/31/2005

The NC Museum of Art, with its impressive permanent collection, is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. A variety of works will catch your eye from ancient Egypt and Rome to present. Admission is free if you are viewing the permanent collection. There is a small fee to view temporary exhibits. They tend to be well worth the minimal fee. They also offer free, guided walk-in tours Tuesday-Sunday in the afternoon. Their café is also known for serving good food. Don’t forget to catch a movie on the lawn in the summer. more

Solid collection. 7/28/2005

The North Carolina Museum of Art is quite nice. They house a pretty respectable permanent collection, and host some pretty impressive temporary exhibits, as well (last year's contemporary art and flight exhibit was a personal favorite). They also feature outdoor movie and music performances, as well as some special classes, and there are also a few outside installations, as well as a bike/pedestrian greenway. Admission to the permanent collection is always free, and the special features are always reasonably priced (the movies in the park, for example are only $3). It's certainly worth a walk-through at least once or twice a year. more

Museum for Everyone 7/14/2005

The NC Art Museum has a very impressive permanent collection of paintings and artifacts from lands throughout the world. They often host specialty collections on tour and the only stop in North Carolina is at the art museum. During the spring and summer, they also have outdoor movies on the lawn and the movies are usually family friendly. It is a great date idea. It is even better to try to get there early for the movie, bring a picnic and blanket and spend an extra hour with a group of friends. There is a restaurant in the museum as well. If you become a member of the museum, many events are free or discounted throughout the year. more
