Solid Sushi Restaurant 5/16/2010

Nori has been my favorite sushi restaurants in the neighborhood. It is affordable, fresh, friendly and always a pleasant place to eat at. I invited two of my friends to dine there and they were both happy with their food. We got the spicy roll combo, tempura and dragon roll for all of us. They were all huge portion and taste really fresh. For dessert, we tried the layered cream cake with red bean ice cream, which I think is just OK. Nonetheless, it was a great dinner and I would recommend people to dine here for quality sushi for less. Pros: Inexpensive, fresh sushi, Friendly service more

Best New Sushi in the East Village 6/10/2008

I guess it is not that new anymore, but after reading the positive review in TimeOut, my husband and I thought we would give our regular sushi place a break and try Nori. We were not disappointed! The food is great. I love their inventive rolls and the use of quality ingredients (they use real crab in the california and rainbow rolls). The service is friendly and after only two visits, the staff already knew us and what we like. Needless to say, this has become our new regular sushi spot. Don't miss this great spot! Pros: Great food, great prices, great service more

Sushi like sushi was meant to be 1/3/2008

After three visits to and one delivery from Nori, I'm compelled to write a review. Every experience there has been perfect. The Nori salad is a flavorful alternative to typical seaweed. The salmon carpaccio with ginger sauce melts in your mouth. The chirashi (my usual sushi order) is fantastic - no krab sticks here! Only the highest quality fish selected by Nori himself, a great guy who's obviously passionate about his craft. I had never had raw shrimp before and my friend said she'd never cared for it, but we agreed after one taste that we'd be back for more! Make sure you save room for dessert. I've had the molten chocolate souflee, green tea crepe and the fried banana. The service is flawless - they want to know your name and they want to know that you're happy! Nori is brand new and hasn't yet been granted a liquor license, so bring your own sake and get ready to be blown away. A toast to Nori! Pros: high quality fish, delicious food, fantastic service, Cons: no liquor license more

A Jewel of a Find!!! Best New Sushi in East Village! 12/15/2007

I'm a huge fan of Sushi and discovered this on my way to my usual cheap sushi spot near St. Mark's when this tiny discrete doorway that used to be Hip Hop Chow caught my eye. A nice japanese restaurant is rare in this 1/2 price sushi district. Looked at the menu and although it isn't 1/2 price, we still gave it a try. A bit skeptical since there were only 2 other couples, but the charm of the decor and the servers left us hoping that this would be a jewel of a find. Pros: great fish, amazing desert, friendly staff more

Good Food, Great value!! 12/14/2007

Few days ago I went to St. Marks Place at lunch time just looking for some nice food, and when i was walking on Second Ave. i saw this restaurant NORI, and they just have a little sign on the window. and when i looked into the restaurant, it looks nice, but no customer there. i just wanna walk away there, but a girl come out and ask if i want to give them a try, she told me that is their first week opening at lunch hour, and there is run by japanese, and the chef is japanese too. so i go for it then. First i was worry about how's the food come out. i ordered the Chirashi combo and their recommendation Gyu Tsutsumi Yaki (Wagyu wrapping with Rib-eye) that's really really tasty!!! the beef is really juicy and soft. i'm glad that i get in there. I really enjoy my lunch there, and it's very relaxing there, and people are friendy and helpful too, their timing is very good, not too rush, some restaurant are rushing you so much. but some of them are too slow. but this one is just perfect. I'll be come back there with friends for sure. more
