You wanna go where everybody knows your name. This is the place to be!

Worst

The coffee is terrible. Absolutely not drinkable coffee. This place is ok if you get a bottled smoothie or soda. Outdoor seating is available, dog friendly. The staff has no clue ...

Your Neighborhood Coffee House 3/30/2009

I have been going to this coffee shop for years. Same wonderful owner. Great service, great food and coffee. The employees are the best. They have wonderful seating outside in the warm months. They even have the best Christmas trees around in December! (Who would have thought) :-) I love supporting the local businesses. Pros: You feel like part of the family more

Neighborhood Benefits, Cheapest Icecream around. 8/1/2008

I really like Nokomis Beach. The owners are very nice and have a friendly rapport with almost everyone who comes in. Half the time I'm there I feel like I'm in a diner scene in an old movie or something because every other person who comes in is a regular. Mostly young kids work there, but it's a good thing becaue it infuses the place with a little youth culture since most of the regulars are older people with children who live near the lake. Coffee isn't as good as Starbucks, but they make up for it with their espresso drinks, iced tea, and cold press coffee, and I'd rather support something local. $1.61 for a BIG scoop of good ice cream is a rarity in South Minneapolis, and therefore a hidden gem. Pros: affordable prices, wonderful service, family atmosphere, lots of regulars Cons: coffee allright more

Way better than the big business Starbucks or Carribou 7/17/2008

This place is fantastic! I've been going there since I was a child, and I can truly say that this is my favorite coffee place. The coffee is way better than in the past and the staff is fantastic! They know many of the customers on a personal level just from working there and make everyone there feel great! The cafe just overall has a neighborhood vibe to it, like everyone there knows each other. Their sandwiches are delicious, and the ice cream and pastries have put a few pounds on my frame because I can't stop eating the scrumptious parcels! Overall, I can't get enough of this place! Pros: the staff, the food, the atmosphere Cons: parking availability more

Nasty Coffee- Teenage Staff 6/12/2008

The coffee is terrible. Absolutely not drinkable coffee. This place is ok if you get a bottled smoothie or soda. Outdoor seating is available, dog friendly. The staff has no clue as to what they are doing. This is an ok spot if you were visiting the lake, but whatever you do, DO NOT DRINK THE COFFEE! Pros: Location, Parking, Dog Friendly Cons: Disgusting, Stick with Something Bottled, Staff is Clueless more

Not a gem. 6/12/2007

Mom and pop coffee joint but doesn't deliver the character or quality to outdo Starbucks or Dunn Brothers. Mediocre service staff though friendly. Burnt coffee, beans ground in advance and stacked in filters under the counter, sour smelling (warm) half-and-half container, no cold press coffee. Prices are very reasonable but I'd pay more for something enjoyable. I haven't tried their ice cream. Pros: nice place Cons: bad coffee, no cold press coffee, poorly stocked condiment area, warm half and half more

best coffee in the neighborhood 5/4/2007

Last weekend I saw Mike Hatch there cursing about the voters in Grand Marais and generally making an @ss of himself. It was awesome! Too much caffeine I guess. Pros: Loud, obnoxious and generally entertaining politicians hang out here Cons: No bike racks, citysearch won't let me use the word ""ghett0"" more

best tuna sammy around 5/4/2007

Warm and friendly neighborhood hangout 10/6/2006

Located so near Lake Nokomis this is the perfect place to meet a friend for coffee and take a walk around the lake. Very family friendly atmosphere. The owners have taken great care to extend themselves to the neighborhood and we appreciate it! Food is fresh and good and affordable. Baked bread and sweets come from the bakery just up the street. check it out! Pros: Lovely setting, next to lake and bookstore more

Cozy corner eats 3/30/2006

I really like Nokomis Beach. They always have good soups, great handmade sandwiches while you wait, and the staff is very friendly and personable. The owners are ""good people"" and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. It's a nice neighborhood place to eat at. Pros: Friendly staff, Quality food Cons: Prices a bit high, Limited parking more

Every neighborhood should have an independent coffee shop - and everyone in the neighborhood should support it. I live in St. Paul but recently stopped here with friends. The place is comfy with great outdoor seating. The young couple running it are friendly and very much a part of the neighborhood - they even have special events and donate funds to help the neighborhood. more
