I purchased Ice Cream from Nob Hill Foods Store, Los Gatos. When I got it home I it tasted bad. It had a bitter flavor. When I went back to return it, Terry, the Manager, told me that they cannot accept returns without a receipt. So I went home and got the receipt. Then she said she couldn?t accept the return because when she looked at it she said it looked fine. When I told her it tasted badly, she said they couldn?t cater my tastes. We (Nob Hill) cannot return it for credit and we will loose money on it. She said this in a very loud voice. All the people around me could here. I was very embarrassed. When I go to that store, the managers give me the feeling that they are not there to help me. If they are out of a sale Item, I am always mistaken. They haveto prove me wrong. They say it is on the shelf. If I insist, they make me wait 10 minutes while someone searches the shelves, the back of the store, the refrigerator etc., to prove me wrong. When they find they are out. If I want a rain check, I have to wait while they find the pad and make a big deal out of it. Most Safeway stores bend over backwards to make you happy. They will give you a substitute at the sale price, or write a rain check on the spot. No questions asked. I feel like they want my business. Since Raley's took over Nob Hill it is not the same. They were once the models of customer service, the gold standard of fine quality grocery stores. It was a pleasure to shop there. I am sad to say that that is no longer the case. What really saddens me is that many of the long time Nob Hill employees, who are not managers, really are good, and try to serve you despite their Managers. But they are defeated by a management that puts profit ahead of good customer relations, and prove that, by hiring managers who also put rules and profit ahead of customer service.
