  • Ninilchik, Alaska is the ancestral home of the Ninilchik Tribe and the location of the Ninilchik Traditional Council. The Ninilchik Traditional Council is the tribal governing body for the federally recognized Ninilchik Village Tribe, a sovereign entity. The Tribal population is primarily of Dena'ina, Athabaskan and Aleut ancestry, and numbers approximately 600 plus members. As a federally recognized tribe, NTC contracts with the federal government to provide health, education, social service, housing, environmental and various other services to the Alaska Native and American Indian population residing within tribal boundaries. Individual program requirements vary according to federal regulations and some programs do not have a residency requirement. The Ninilchik Village Tribe is governed by a five member council. Council members serve three-year, staggered terms and elections are held on an annual basis. The council operates under a written constitution and ordinances (e.g. Enrollment, Election, Judicial, Domestic Violence and Consultation). The council also provides general direction to the administration through the Executive Director. The NTC administration consists of the Executive Director, Executive Assistant/Deputy CEO, a Finance Officer, a Procurement Officer and a Secretary/Receptionist. These positions provide the necessary internal controls of the management, financial, property and procurement systems. NTC is audited annually under the Federal Single Audit Act. Department Directors provide direct program supervision. The Tribal Services Director, Clinic Director, Housing Director and Environmental Program Director provide guidance to their staff and work to implement the specific programs and activities.
