Just a fun place to take your kids 10/11/2008

I'm sorry about one of the comments, it must be an older adult writing it. We go every year and it is just a fun thing to do for your kids. To see the kids faces when the fish come and jump up the ladder thats priceless, and it only cost you a nickel for some fish food for the kids to feed the smaller fish. I do recommend this for you to take your kids, it's a learning experience for all of you but most of all the kids love it. Pros: Watching your kids faces , cost of food for fish 5 cents, easy access parking Cons: They should watch the food supply and replenish a lot, picnic tables should be supplied more

Family good stuff 1/15/2006

Wow- sorry to read that other review. We HAVEN'T been there numerous times, but my husband and kids (6 and 3) and I REALLY ENJOYED watching and feeding the fish, wandering thru the grounds,(over to the lake as well)...We made a day of it and literally had to DRAG the kids out. We don't remember it as smelly, either.Pack a picnic for the lake, maybe plan on renting kayaks, and plan on at LEAST a couple hours of watching and feeding the fish!! You'll need a stroller for little ones though! Pros: free admission, go your own pace more

It Stinks 2/27/2003

Having grown up in Sacramento, I have to say that the hatchery just isn't that cool. I was taken there countless times by schools, youth groups, day camps, etc. and after about the first ten minutes, it's just not that fun to throw little fish pellets at the fish. Plus, it stinks. Quite literally. And badly. more
