We were very disappointed in the service. Our waiter kept insisting that we order from the chef's recommendation but we did not want to order a 6 course meal. He seemed irritated ...

Never again... 2/17/2012

We walked in twenty minutes before our reservation but were promptly seated. So far so good. Our waiter came by to greet us and handed over the wine list. We pick our bottle of wine and we handed off the menus. After deciding our selection for dinner the waiter stepped back over to the table and asked, ?What can you afford?? I was in a bit of shock that this was the way that we were addressed but even with being shocked, I moved on to inform the waiter on our choices. We went with the four-course meal and made our selections. While we drank our wine we looked around the room. My close friend informed me to slowly look over my shoulder. I turned slowly and saw some candelabras with?fake ivy. On this fake ivy seemed to be an inch of dust. Again, I was flabbergasted to see this in such a fancy restaurant when they can clearly afford fresh flowers. We shrugged it off and moved forward. I kept seeing the food coming out being presented under a silver Hershey kiss shape formation. The waiters would simultaneously ?with a bang sound? remove the covers and present the dish. I thought to myself, with such a presentation the food must be outstanding. We had our first two appetizers come out without the ?kiss?. They were average and nothing to write home to mom about. Side note: I did order the borscht soup, which I was very excited about because I have been to Moscow and it was one of the most memorable parts of the trip. This was nothing close to what I remembered. It brought back one memory. I think me and my friend simultaneously looked at each other and whispered two words?Chef Boyardee. We sat with our empty plates in front of us for just a bit of time. I looked up to see our waiter giving a snarling glace at another waiter to remove our plates and refill our wine. I didn?t expect much less from a man that formulated a question of ?what can you afford? and I tried to not let him continue ruining my dinner experience. Our ?kisses? came out and we got the same presentation as the rest, but when we took a bite from our main meal we were not completely impressed. I thought?it would have been better without the big hype before the release. If you are going to put that much into something I would say that whatever is under that huge silver kiss better be something that would knock me on the floor. We finished and moved on to the last but most disastrous course of the evening. The one that we were hoping would save it all?the desert. Once laid on our table we thought, how beautiful. I had the chocolate mousse and my friend, the chocolate cake with salted caramel. Oh, side note: The waiter placed the wrong orders in front of us?every time. Moving on, I enjoyed my mousse but there was a small shriek that came from my friend after placing a raspberry in his mouth. It was rotten. We tried to explain this rotten raspberry to our waiter and the manager but the entire rebuttal was that the raspberries were soaked in balsamic vinegar. I was like you served balsamic vinegar raspberries with a chocolate caramel desert? Any even if they did, we found the worst raspberry in the case. The manager didn?t seem to care and neither did the waiter. The waiter put down our bill and we said thank you to only get him to snub us with a turn of his back. We were shocked and will never return to Nikolai's Roof. more

Interesting atmosphere and romantic 7/4/2009

Nikolais takes you back to old times Russia with the decor which is mirrored and brass and very warm and old-fashioned. They are famous for clinking the silver plate warmers together in unison when revealing your courses. Try the homeade vodka and you won't be dissapointed. Pros: Unique Cons: Portions are somewhat small more

Fantastic Ambiance & Cuisine 9/23/2008

My husband and I live in Charleston SC, and our wedding planner took us to Nikolai's when we were in Atlanta, and we were extremely impressed. The Cuisine is was phenomenal and the atmosphere was incredibly romantic. We have recommended Nikolai's to all of our family that lives in the Atlanta area. Pros: Fantastic Cuisine, Great Ambiance Cons: Quite Pricey more

A great overall experience and what a view! 2/29/2008

Visited ""The Roof"" with my wife last night and was very pleased. It's a beautiful place and the view to the North is fantastic. We had the ""Chefs Menu"" with wine pairings. I have to say, I found the food to be a little inconsistent for the money. My first dish, a three meat filled pastries (beef, pheasant and crab) with a bernaise dipping sauce was fabulous. So so delicate and flakey! The next dish, fresh oysters prepared three ways, was just OK. The next was a spinach/crab souffle along with a risotto cake, both were just ""very good"", not fantastic. The main was lobster with crab ravioli and it was wonderful. The much anticipated Grand Marnier souffle was a real disappointment. It was perfectly prepared but was way too ""eggy"". Not sweet at all and just not very good. The last offering was a chocolate truffle (wonderful), strawberry dipped in chocolate (good) and the best almond cookie I've ever tasted! Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy in the middle. I didn't know a cookie could be so good! Pros: Beautiful room, ambiance and service and a simply wonderful view. Cons: Rather spendy and some of the food this particular evening could have been better. more

The epitome of a romatic dinner. 8/14/2007

We dined at Nikolai's Roof a couple months ago and wasn't sure what to expect other than what we saw on the internet. The service, the food the atmosphere was so romantic. Everyone should at least try this place once. We (the ladies) were given long stem roses and the waiter gave us a bottle of peach syrup and the recipe for one of the drinks. Quite impressive. So guys, if you want to impress your lady, take her to Nikolai's Roof. Pros: You must go in the evening to get the full effect of the Atlanta Skyline. Cons: N/A more

Czar Still Rules Here! Elegant Russian/French Cuisine, Caviar, and Souffle! 1/9/2007

It has probably been at least ten years, or more since I've dined at Nickolai's Roof. But I had a couple of clients staying at Downtown Hotels, and due to a time restriction, we decided on Nickolai's. The cozy rooftop restaurant has been updated, and there are certainly taller buildings, but the view is still tops and relaxing. Guys grab your dinner jackets, and get ready to be treated like royalty. This place is like an old friend that you have not seen in years, and suddenly, it's like they never left. And of course we started with chilled flavored vodka's. And then that wonderful caviar selections, with all the toppings, chopped egg, capers, and sour cream. I had a Roasted Duck with Cognac Sauce, my friends had the Roasted Lamb, and a terrific Grilled Swordfish entree. And then just the best souffle anywhere, the Grand Marnier. They never take this dish off, rightly so. Yes the place is old fashioned, but how refreshing, with all the current upscale trends. If Paris decides to visit one of her family's holdings, reservations, are in order again. Five Stars! No Question! Very expensive. Pros: Elegant Russian/French Dining! Superior Service! Souffle! Cons: Very Expensive! Company Account Level! more

Great view, great service! 12/29/2006

We took the elevator to Nikolai's Roof for drinks before our dinner at Trader Vic's. We had just been to the Sundial at the Westin Peachtree, but the service and atmosphere at Nikolai's Roof was FAR better! And, the view is not as tall, but just as gorgeous! We had the nicest server, a young man from the Netherlands. He was prompt, courteous, and very sweet. Save time and come here for drinks, and avoid the Sundial! Also, Trader Vics was fantastic! Pros: View, service, atmosphere! Cons: Finding the parking garage and correct elevator in the Hilton wasn't easy more

worth every penny 2/19/2006

It wasn't busy the night that we dined, and seemed fully staffed, so I was slightly aware of people watching us. However, that feeling was swept away with the best service I've had. Detailed menu, no rush, no push for alcohol As each course was presented (beautifully) the server gave a detailed explanation of each dish. Our servers waited patiently between each course, removed our plates when it was clear we were both done. No crowded tables. No rush. The only thing that bothered me, not restaurant's fault, was a woman seated behind me. She kept blowing her nose loudly into her napkin. It ruined the romance slightly to hear sinus honks every few minutes. Other than that, It was a relaxing and wonderfully peaceful dining experience. Upscale fine dining without snob pretense. Our bill $400 including tip - well worth it. Highly reccommended for romantic dining or business Pros: Unique food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: expensive more

Poor Service 7/25/2004

We were very disappointed in the service. Our waiter kept insisting that we order from the chef's recommendation but we did not want to order a 6 course meal. He seemed irritated that we wanted to see at least see a menu. We each ordered 3 courses and he insisted that we order our dessert selection immediately. The food was very good and the presentation was very nice but for the price we paid, our service should have been better. To make matters worse, they messed up the bill and after we paid it, they came back and said they accidentally left out some of the wine and needed to rerun our credit card again. We won't be back. Pros: food presentation Cons: , value more

Well rounded 5/2/2003

Very nice dinner. Great wine list, though a bit pricey (a $150 bottle of champagne was $250), but the food definitely was worth it, as was the service, and atmosphere. more

Wow... 1/13/2003

My husband and I have been to Nikolai's twice and will certainly go back there again. The food was excellent and the service was great. I enjoyed the intermezzos of cheese plates and sorbets and fine chocolate. Well worth the money. We tried Seegers as well and Nikolai's was by far a lot better! Pros: romantic, excellent food, great service Cons: a little pricey more

I felt like a Queen 12/9/2002

For 4 hours, I felt like a Queen....not someone's mother or wife. The food, the presentation and the service was heavenly....I highly recommend the Chef's selections coupled with the recommended wines. Pros: chef's selections, wine pairings more

Top 10 in Atlanta 10/18/2002

Do not listen to anyone who rates this restaurant lower than a 9. Nikolai's roof is by far the best restaurant I have eaten at in Atlanta, probably the top 5 ever... including restaurants in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Seattle. I have been twice and it demonstrates exceptional quality in food, service, and ambiance. You will not be disappointed. However, for exceptional service comes exceptional cost. Be prepared to enjoy a night of fine dining. Reservations and Coat required. Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance Cons: Cost more

unequaled ambiance 8/23/2002

The finest food preparations and presentaions found anywhere with a view to match. Large and diverse wine list with top notch sommelier. The flavored vodkas set the stage and Chef Klapdhor does the rest. A must. Pros: unique setting, 4-star dining, once in a lifetime Cons: 2+ hour meal more

King of Restaurants 7/29/2002

Nikolai's Roof is entirely the most desirable restaurant in Atlanta. With its beautiful skyline view, and with its most incredible and always changing menu, I give this restaurant from a rating of 1 - 10 a powerful 15. Pros: incredible service, desirable food, cant go wrong Cons: costly but worth it, non, non more
