Nightengale Motel

We were visiting Sturgeon Bay over the summer and room rates are terrible during the summer. We stopped at many hotels and when we came to this one, we stayed after loving the decent room rate ($75) and allowing our dog without making us pay a security deposit. Weloved the home like atmosphere (there is a chess table set up in the lobby along with a TV and couch), and they provide a nice backyard for you to walk your dogs. I read the other review posted and I saw no evidence of ""sneakiness or untrustworthiness"". In fact, the couple that manages it were very helpful, even letting us in at around 1:00 am after leaving our key in the room, even though the manager had been sleeping. I have been staying here for a couple of months now because I have a job in Sturgeon Bay. The hotel is run by the son of the owner and his girlfriend. His girlfriend has access to the master keys for the hotel. One time I had an Asian food sauce and she mentioned she really liked it and asked if I would pick her up a bottle next time I went to the Asian food store. Well, I didnt (she didn't give me any money to buy it with) and a couple of days later when I got back from work, I went to use my sauce and it was all watered down as if someone had used it and filled it up with water to make it look like none was missing. Recently I came home to find out that a pouch containing a gold ring and gold watch I keep in the same spot was missing from its spot and I could smell this girl's perfume in my room. I know that the pouch is not in the room because I went down to talk to the owner's son about what has been going on and he got angry with me and kicked me out. I packed all of my things that were in the room and I still didn't find my jewelry. When you come to Door County, avoid this place. Pros: cheap weekly rates Cons: unresponsible/untrustworthy staff, they made me pay for amenities such as tv remote batteries and toilette paper, this wasn't provided more
