This is an honest account of Nick's Tailoring.
I like many of you, read the reviews to find a good tailor to get my clothes altered in Columbia, SC.
I read SCDMH and jadehorse77's review but didn't think too much of it because there were reviews by others who had positive experiences.
So I went to Nick's in two separate occasions to get my suits altered and here are my experiences:
First Warning:
He has this disturbing business practice where he never writes the quoted price on the slip! Luckily I took a mental note of the cost for each alterations because I realized that when I went back to pick up the suit, he told me completely different price.
So his shady business practice is one thing, the other is him and his workmanship. The back of the suit needs to be smooth with no wrinkling of the fabric but when I got the suit back, I could tell the stitching was done poorly.
Second Warning:
I felt sour from the first time I went to him but I went back to Nick's, thinking they would know better than me about getting suits altered. The second time around, he continued to spew out cost of alterations for four things that I needed to get done really fast but he never writes it down! I go to pick it up, I check the suit and on top of the suit, there was a two pieces of thread sticking out. I asked Nick to check it out and he pulls out the thread which doesn't take a genius to figure out that it was part of the alteration. He just takes a scissors and cuts it off rather than finding out why the thread was coming loose (hmm...). Also, I realized that stitching on the left side of my jacket was poorly done and not symmetrical to the right side (very obvious!)
I also needed to get the pants altered and while I was looking through the pants for the quality of the stitching and Nick says in his condescending tone, ""What are you looking for?"" I was completely floored by his comment. I told him I was checking the work. He takes the pants off of my hands and he says (again in his condescending tone...), ""there is nothing to see there, all of the stitching was done inside"" and he flips the pants inside out to show me.
I realized, this would be my last time coming to Nick's because of his complete lack of professionalism, when he didn't even say, ""Thank you"" after handing me my receipt. I guess he has enough satisfied customer and make enough money to not give a damn about saying ""Thank you"" to customers.
I realize, I am a small percentage of Nick's Tailoring customer who had bad experiences but if you are looking for a good tailor, there are plenty of other tailors whom you can go to and not be treated in a condescending manner AND GET YOUR CLOTHES ALTERED FASTER!!!
You can tell a good tailor based on his craftsmanship but it's the customer service that brings customers back. Well... I can comfortably say that he and his assistants are not very good (even worse if they are rushing through your expensive suits, dresses or clothes) and Nick's poor business antics are not worth your time and money. This is my honest review but sometimes, I would rather see you read this review and not have to experience Nick for yourself. You really deserve better. (unfortunately, I have to give at least 1 star... I would have given him <1/2 star if there was such option)
