Excellent work 9/14/2011

I bought a suit off the rack for an upcoming wedding. Of course, the problem with off-the-rack suit purchases is that they fit, but don't fit perfectly. The sleeves didn't show any shirt, the shoulders were slightly uneven, and the pants were about a half-size too small around the waist (one size bigger at BR was way too big). I told Nick I needed the alterations done within 3 weeks because I had a wedding to go to. He finished them in 2 weeks and the cost was $57. Well worth it! Now I have an inexpensive suit that looks like a million bucks! more

BEST Tailor in Columbia! 4/8/2011

I have been to Nick's Tailoring twice now and had a great experience both times! I recently lost a lot of weight, so I took him 7 tops, a dress and 7 pair of pants. Every one of them look like they were custom made for me now! I was thrilled with the precision and quality of his work-- and I am VERY picky! It is true that he is a little more expensive and takes a little longer than other places, but, I am telling you, it's worth the wait and the price! He is very fair with his pricing. He will be more than a drycleaners, but the work will be MUCH better. He will tell you to expect it to take 2 weeks, but it will probably take up to 3 weeks, so don't go in at the last minute. It's worth waiting for. I wouldn't trust anyone else to do my tailoring besides Nick! more

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED 4/7/2011

This is an honest account of Nick's Tailoring. I like many of you, read the reviews to find a good tailor to get my clothes altered in Columbia, SC. I read SCDMH and jadehorse77's review but didn't think too much of it because there were reviews by others who had positive experiences. So I went to Nick's in two separate occasions to get my suits altered and here are my experiences: First Warning: He has this disturbing business practice where he never writes the quoted price on the slip! Luckily I took a mental note of the cost for each alterations because I realized that when I went back to pick up the suit, he told me completely different price. So his shady business practice is one thing, the other is him and his workmanship. The back of the suit needs to be smooth with no wrinkling of the fabric but when I got the suit back, I could tell the stitching was done poorly. Second Warning: I felt sour from the first time I went to him but I went back to Nick's, thinking they would know better than me about getting suits altered. The second time around, he continued to spew out cost of alterations for four things that I needed to get done really fast but he never writes it down! I go to pick it up, I check the suit and on top of the suit, there was a two pieces of thread sticking out. I asked Nick to check it out and he pulls out the thread which doesn't take a genius to figure out that it was part of the alteration. He just takes a scissors and cuts it off rather than finding out why the thread was coming loose (hmm...). Also, I realized that stitching on the left side of my jacket was poorly done and not symmetrical to the right side (very obvious!) I also needed to get the pants altered and while I was looking through the pants for the quality of the stitching and Nick says in his condescending tone, ""What are you looking for?"" I was completely floored by his comment. I told him I was checking the work. He takes the pants off of my hands and he says (again in his condescending tone...), ""there is nothing to see there, all of the stitching was done inside"" and he flips the pants inside out to show me. I realized, this would be my last time coming to Nick's because of his complete lack of professionalism, when he didn't even say, ""Thank you"" after handing me my receipt. I guess he has enough satisfied customer and make enough money to not give a damn about saying ""Thank you"" to customers. I realize, I am a small percentage of Nick's Tailoring customer who had bad experiences but if you are looking for a good tailor, there are plenty of other tailors whom you can go to and not be treated in a condescending manner AND GET YOUR CLOTHES ALTERED FASTER!!! You can tell a good tailor based on his craftsmanship but it's the customer service that brings customers back. Well... I can comfortably say that he and his assistants are not very good (even worse if they are rushing through your expensive suits, dresses or clothes) and Nick's poor business antics are not worth your time and money. This is my honest review but sometimes, I would rather see you read this review and not have to experience Nick for yourself. You really deserve better. (unfortunately, I have to give at least 1 star... I would have given him <1/2 star if there was such option) more

Worth every penny. 10/20/2009

Nick is simply an excellent tailor. Very professional, uses chalk to mark alterations (does not damage fabric). Will make a suit look like it was custom made. Also, like a good tailor should, he will tell you if something looks good or if it was a bad buy. I prefer honesty. He also does custom suits as well (once I can afford one). You should be aware that it will cost you approx. $60-70 to fully tailor a suit (pants and jacket). If you balk at that, then take a picture of yourself in the suit before and after and you will understand. As noted by another user, his wait time is longer than most especially around christmas and formal season at the universities. Never wear a suit ""off the rack"" without taking it to Nick first...and do not listen to the salesmen at the store who say it looks good...they would say that if you tried on a brown suit with horizontal stripes... Pros: Best, most professional tailor in columbia Cons: wait time (he is very, very popular) more

Best Tailor In Columbia, SC! Great Alterations! 1/14/2009

I've been a regular customer of Nick's for about four years now, and I highly recommend him. Since I am petite with a longish torso and shortish limbs, nearly every piece of clothing I buy must be adjusted, and I am very particular about my alterations. I take everything to Nick and am always very satisfied with the results. Count on a two-week turnaround (three weeks just before Christmas) and expect to pay more than you would at the dry cleaner. The price difference is well justified by the quality of the work. He shortens my Target T-shirts and takes in my more expensive jackets and cocktail dresses. He virtually remade a pair of $235 Milly pants that I bought at a sidewalk sale for $23 because the original shape was so bizarre, and now they fit like a dream. I've always been nervous about having jeans altered -- I thought the changes would show and look terrible. One day, after I was through trying on the items I wanted altered, I came out of the dressing room in my jeans, and Nick went for the pins. I explained that no, this was just what I was wearing that day, and he suggested I bring those jeans back to get rid of the weirdness where the back point of the yoke seams stuck out from my body, making it look as if I had a tail in there (my description, not Nick's). The original seams were sewn with two slightly different colors of thread, which he matched perfectly. You can not tell the jeans were touched at all. Don't skimp on tailoring -- go to Nick! Pros: Craftsmanship, Service, Friendliness, Parking more

Not worth it 5/22/2008

I had a formal dress that was a little too big. Nick had it taken in, and charged me $75. The dress itself was only worth $100, so it cost almost as much as the dress to get it taken in. Nick was very polite and friendly, but I felt that I was being gouged with the price. more

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON NIC'S 5/1/2008

I was told that it would take a month to do the alterations on my wedding dress and that I should call the day before I picked it up just to be sure the dress was pressed and ready. I left the dress for a whole month and even called the day before I picked it up, as Nic had requested. WELL... when I arrived to pick up my dress the following day, I found it not only unpressed but UNTAYLORED as well!!!! He tried to hide the fact that the dress had not been touched since the day I dropped it off, a full MONTH earlier, but I watched him give my dress one of his assistants who sped through my alterations in ten minutes flat. The alterations were poorly done and I actually had to refuse to pay for the work until they were fixed ? Nic did not take kindly to this at all and reacted in a very rude and unprofessional way. He had one of his assistants fix the blunder (still only of mediocre quality), and then charged me top dollar. I just thought the entire experience was so disappointing. I could not have been treated more poorly and the work was no where near the quality that I paid for. DON?T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON NIC?S!!! Cons: EXPENSIVE AND UNPROFESSIONAL more

Top Tailor. 2/13/2008

Nick is very good! I bought a suit at a local suit store and the alterations they made were sad. Nick fixed the mistakes and even made adjustments that they (the store) should have made but never suggested. I didn't find him much more expensive than what the store charged me. And when he did the alterations I didn't have to have them done again, unlike the store.\r \r He also makes custom shirts and suits which I imagine are very nice. Pros: Right downtown, several meters for parking out front more

An excellent Tailor! 9/20/2007

A true tailor! Does a great job, but a little pricey! the price is worth it though if you need something fixed the correct way. He has fixed many pieces of mine that others could have never done. Pros: fixes clothing the correct way Cons: a bit pricey more

Good but pricey. 5/21/2007

I had Nick custom fit some suits I purchased elsewhere. He did a good job but he charged me for it. more
