My sisters and I went to Newport for a mini summer vacation. We thought going horseback riding would add something unique to our usual Newport activities. Well, the academy is act...

No good for horses or customers 10/13/2011

I was disappointed in this business not only as a tourist but as a horse owner. I usually don't write reviews, but I don't think what this business does is right, and potential riders should know. \r \r This place is basically a backyard operation---which I have no problem with, because I can imagine the prices of real estate in this area. But the owner is obviously out for profit by taking in way more boarders and trail horses than the small and pretty decrepit-looking facilities can obviously handle. \r \r The paddocks are hardly bigger than stalls with almost no grass in sight. The horses we rode were poorly groomed and had been standing saddled in their stalls for god knows how long before we got there. I could hear my mare had a loose shoe, but the tour guide said she'd be fine, even for the hour of mostly asphalt-walking. \r \r The horses are clearly treated like little more than off-roading vehicles, and I would've canceled when we got there if it wasn't so expensive. If you have any respect for animals, stay away. more

Terrible 7/19/2011

Visiting Newport for the first time from NJ and we thought this might be a fun way to spend an afternoon. We could not have been more disappointed with our decision. Right from the start we should have known this was not kosher. From having to pay everything in cash upfront to NO CAMERAS ALLOWED!! Are you kidding? I am not a person to write reviews however this was so bad I felt it was important to warn other people. Of course I am now finding similar reviews all over the place. Stay as far away from this place as you can. They may promise you a lot of things but will deliver NONE. more

Not what they say 9/8/2010

Our family went here after talking to the owner, Suzanne, and being promised a great trail ride to a beach. This was an outright bold faced lie. How shameful to treat people this way. All we got was a slow walk the road she lives on which was busy with cars flying by. I asked why we were walking on such a busy street and I was told this was the trail! After we got back I tried to talk to the owner and she became so rude and nasty. this place is obviously out just for your money. I would give it zero stars if I could. more

STAW AWAY 8/6/2010

The worst vacation experience ever. Horrible. Walked on a road with cars driving by...fast! Really dangerous. Horses looked sick. There is no trail to speak of. Total rip off. Newport Chamber of Commerce has to look into this place. Needless to say I am calling them first thing next week. How could they let such a joke of a business in Newport. Traveler beware. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. more

Stay Away from This Place 8/10/2009

My sisters and I went to Newport for a mini summer vacation. We thought going horseback riding would add something unique to our usual Newport activities. Well, the academy is actually a horse barn in someone's back yard. And even though they advertise a trail along the beach the trail is actually on city roads and goes to the parking lot of a beach where the tour guide then points out the beach to you. Our tour guide was not knowledgeable of the area and clearly did not like her job. Yet she tried to pressure us into a 20% tip. SAVE YOUR MONEY. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Pros: riding the horses Cons: no beach trail ride during summer more
