Poor Communication; Conflict of Teaching Techniques 10/10/2007

The owners switched many of their students to a new instructor without any warning or communication beforehand so that they could give preferential treatment to boarders and competers. The other instructor is condescending, seems to not even respect the horses, and his techniques are like day and night compared to the original instructor. One of the main lesson horses, who came from an abusive background, has a problem with biting so this farm's solution is to make him wear a muzzle and constantly deck him when he acts up in the crossties instead of bringing in a trainer to work through the issue with him. Another horse shakes his head like the bit/teeth bothers him and they tell you to give him plenty of slack with the reins so that his shaking won't bother the rider. After switching to antoher barn and describing some of their techniques to another instructor I've been told some of their methods are Western riding techniques, not even English! They have you leave one foot in the stirrup when you dismount which is the Western way of getting off a horse and dangerous for beginner riders if the horse were to spook and take off. more
