Late 2012, I was relocated for work. I hired New York NY Moving and Storage based on reviews and BBB rating. I requested a lump sum quote which I reviewed with their salesperson, Julia Green, several times. I was quoted at approx $1800. I had one weekend to move and they couldn't give me a firm answer on when the movers would show up. They said either Sat PM or Sun AM. They showed up Sat AM (apparently they can't tell time) and immediately charged me $150 for the distance to my apt which was already clearly explained to Julia. If I didn't agree to pay it, their mover, Joe, threatned to leave. TJoe also recommended I use larger boxes but did not tell me he was going to charge me for them. After packing my things onto the truck, I was handed a "take it or we'll leave your belongings on the road" bill of appox $3400. They said I needed to discuss the bill with the office. I spoke to Gale (she doesn't return calls and speaks terrible english) in the billing dept. She said it was my fault for the extra charges. She said the most she could offer me was a $300 discount which was trash compared to the extra charges. On top of the extra charges, they kept giving me different answers on when my things would arrive. They promised me one week from pick-up. They didn't show up. This happened over and over again. They were clueless on where my belongings were. Eventually, everything showed up t6 days late. I had to miss a flight home for the holidays to be there for the movers because they threatened me with add'l charges. The boxes were destroyed and my belongings were damaged. The company will not give me a receipt or the owners contact info. They've aske me to sign a "waiver of good faith" to not go to the BBB in return for the cost of my flight home.
Avoid this company!! They are extremely unprofessional, unorganized, and do not know the meaning of customer delight. They will lie and take advantage of you through broken promises and misinformation. Absolutely stay away from them!
