NEW HORIZIONS, NO THANKS 1/25/2012

I wouldn't leave any stars if it were possible. Thankfully my unpleasant interactions with this facility gave me a taste of what it would be like to have my child in their care. I'm relieved to say that won't be happening. I urge other parents to read below. In order to reserve a spot for childcare, a prepayment of a month's tuition is required in advance. I was told those funds would later be applied the first month of daycare. When I called to inform New Horizons (6 months in advance) that I would not be able to use their services, I was told the money I already paid was ""non-refundable"" yet there was no documentation about this so called policy, nor did I sign anything stating it was non-refundable. (*New Horizons also does not have any sort of documentation about this policy in writing or on file within the company. It is purely ""word of mouth"" or so they say.) Currently I am waiting to hear back from their ""Board"" who's names I was not given, to see if I will need to file a legal case against New Horizons in order to get my money back. On a side note, I was informed my spot has already been filled and funds have been collected from another family, so my money is being withheld for pure profit at this point. While dealing with a woman named Kelly on their staff, I was disgusted with her childish and unprofessional behavior. She set deadlines for answers that were not met, and when I took the initiative and contacted her for an update, she cowardly hung up on me because she didn't have the information like she said she would. Listening to her talk in circles was comical at best. Kelly's lack of urgency, inability to communicate, and overall interaction with others is sub par and adolescent. God forbid I actually had an issue with my child that I needed to speak to someone about and I was treated the same way! I would have come unglued. I would strongly urge other parents to take into consideration the quality of the staff, and their inability to effectively communicate before enrolling their child here. Another review below can vouch for how well they do not return calls. New Horizons is NOT a place I would recommend. I would expect much better service and communication from a place who's sole purpose is to care for our children. I would also predict others will post positive reviews after this one in order to save face, but nothing positive posted about this place could sway me to feel otherwise more

Lots of outside time and my kids are learning a lot 6/12/2007

Excellent daycare option. Lots of outside time. Great outside equipment. Learning opportunities are also great. Both my boys (ages 2 and almost 5) attend separate, age appropriate classes and adjusted really quickly to New Horizons from a top notch in-home daycare and preschool. They love their teachers and are learning lots of new things. The staff is very friendly and great with the kids. Parents tend to be involved both in general and on a co-op basis. \r \r A fair bit of the outdoor equipment is covered for year-round wet / too sunny use. Safe water play on hot days. All the usual equipment plus a knotted rope to swing on like Tarzan and books (yes, they keep some of the books outside...) There is also a roomy outdoor pen with chickens, ducks, and bunnies.\r \r Inside there are lots more books plus plenty of toys to spur development and imaginative play. Wall art tends to be stuff made by the kids or stuff that incorporates pictures of the kids. Every class room has at least one type of creature in it. There are birds in my 2 year-old's room and my almost 5 year-old's room has birds and a turtle. Did you know turtles eat snails? I didn't. We need more turtles...\r \r Staff takes the extra time and effort to encourage children to do appropriate things for themselves even though this takes longer. \r \r Both my kids love to go to school in the morning. If you're looking for daycare, you should definitely consider New Horizons and see if it's right for your kids too. Pros: Learning, outside time, staff, outdoor facilities, lots of happy kids Cons: The buildings are on the older side. more
