In the summer of 2012 my kids went to one of their day-camps where they play various sports games. My oldest son, who was 12 at the time, was seriously injured at their facility. Normally I would chalk that up to just bad luck and move on, but I came to find out that there was some pretty bad negligence on their part that led to the injury. The group of kids that was playing the game was being supervised by a high-school student, which is not necessarily a problem. But instead of just supervising, the kid was actually playing the game with the kids – who were of course half his size and strength. Apparently the kid was being way overzealous and threw the ball so hard at my son that he broke his finger. The break was very severe, very painful for my son, and required four months of a metal splint to allow it to mend properly.\r
When discussing the situation with the General Manager, at first he tried to deny that they had done anything wrong. Later I think he realized how badly they were running things and was more apologetic. He offered to pay for my out-of-pocket medical expenses as well as change the way they were running the games to avoid these problems in the future. I was adamant about that part because I did not want to see more kids hurt because of foolish practices. You should never have older, larger kids playing the same game, at full effort, with younger/smaller ones. This is why there are age and weight groups when it comes to most sports. I know - this should be common sense.\r
In any case, after I had collected all of my receipts and compiled all of the paperwork and gave it to him, things kind of stalled from there. He basically just turned it over to their insurance company which of course just said, after about 6 months wait, that they are not going to pay anything. So now I am meeting with a lawyer.\r
The net here is that the facility is poorly run, and the management is not very trustworthy. I recommend going somewhere else for any sports camps for your kids. \r
