I had Neese come out to my house to troubleshoot a pump failure. The failure was caused by an overload in the pump controller box. Resetting it was simple, but since my controller box was largely rusted out, I asked him to replace it while he was there. When the bill came in a few days later, he had charged me $363. I'd been expecting a price more around $150-$200. After receiving the bill, I called around to several other well & pump repair companies in the area and was given installed prices in the range of $175 to $215.
Trying to determine why I was charged so much, I looked up the specific controller box he'd installed to see if it was some especially high-end one. Insetad I found it available for $95. Given that he should be able to get it for at least what I could, he charged me at least $268 for an hour of labor. The service call was not an emergency, being called in during business hours on a Monday morning and I made no request for priority service. I called Neese and explained my problem with the bill. He said that $363 is what he charges everyone for replacing a controller box. I told him that I'd be sending him a check, but that I'd never be doing any further business with him. I don't recommend anyone else do so either.
