We bought a gift certificate from Natural Environments at a silent auction for $280/4 hours worth of consulting and 60 plants.
After an initial visit to look at our property and talk to us about our yard, Ron Zander and his designer left to go do some drawings.
There was no quote, no invoice, no estimate provided during that visit. We assumed that we'd get the drawings, then get sold implementation and planting services for a price above the $280 gift certificate.
Instead, we Ron dropped off the drawings and an invoice for over $1000, after the $280 credit, and said he needed to get paid within the next two days so he could go on a cruise.
He was rude, contentious, and not empathetic when we responded with shock that he would invoice us for $1,000+ without providing a quote.
We tried being reasonable in negotiations, but he held fast. We made a final offer, he countered. We cut off negotiations.
18 months later, he has hired a collections agency who has claimed to put a lein against our property. Natural Environments/Ron Zander is also apparently taking us to court.
So for a $280 gift certificate toward services that was supposed to include 60 plants, we got two drawings, zero plants, a $1,000+ bill that we didn't pay, and pending legal action.
We've bought a lot of services at silent auction. It's generally a good way to get started, but this one was a really bad experience.
All of this has nothing to do with the ""services rendered"".
We hated the experience so much, we've never looked at the drawings or considered implementing them.
