a nice place to visit for some insight and to meet veterans 8/29/2005

The Nimitz Museum(currently closed for remodeling) is a great place to visit when visiting Fredricksburg. The other parts of the National Museum are great too, but I like to explore the Nimitz, and talk to some of the veteran's that are more than willing to share their experiences and get great joy when seeing younger people take interest in something like WWII. There are always veterans around, and the exhibits are remarkable. I like to explore the outdoor exhibits of the tanks, planes and other equipment. Prices for admission are cheap, and there is plenty of parking. more

Good to experiance at least once 8/19/2005

The Nimitz Museum/National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredricksburg is great for kids and adults alike. They have an indoor and outdoor museum, with tanks, boat models, and movies about the war. The tickets are cheap-$5 a person, and the museum is large, so there are many things to do and see while you are there. It is spread out, but starts on Main Street. more

Editorial
  • In Short
Covering a nine-acre site with seven centers, this is the only museum in the continental United States dedicated exclusively to the Pacific theater of World War II. Allied and Japanese military artifacts and personal items from soldiers, volunteers and medical personnel are displayed. The Pacific War Combat Zone recreates a battle area with bunkers, foxholes and trenches. Large military equipment like a TBM Avenger torpedo bomber and Japanese Val dive-bomber can also be seen.
