Worst

I went there for 8 months and paid $70 each time to get my dreads locked up. The result was beyond horrifying; I ended up with two huge balled spots; one TOP and the other on the...

Bad Hair stylist Rhonda at Nappy or Not 2/27/2007

I went to Rhonda Glenn at "Nappy or Not" in Oakland to get a short hair cut and it was HORRIBLE. I wore many short hair cuts before but the one she did was bad. She didn't style my hair close to the picture that was in the book it was a simple up-to-date short hair cut instead she gave me an ancient hair cut from the 90's and the cut was Terrible. I will Never go back to her shop again. Her price was too high the hair style and cut was not worth $100, she was 30 minutes late to the appointment, and the atmosphere of the shop was not good customer service. Pros: Thumbs down Cons: Parking not good more

Cool Natural Styles, but...... 1/10/2007

Nappy or Not have some cool natural styles that you won't see on anyone else. All there styles comes out different on everyone so they are not alike. My hair stylist is Rhonda and I have been going to her on and off for about 10 years and 5 shops. I am genarally in braids, but when I want a break I go to Nappy or Not for a fresh natural look. A little on the expensive side to be a regular but you will be satisfied with the outcome. When you go, be prepared to stay all day! Pros: unique styles, friendly atmosphere Cons: Expensive, too slow more

Oh hell no!!!!!!!!!! 10/23/2006

I should have known better. I read the reviews on this site the night before but still decided to give them a chance. I got there and my stylist walks in 15 minutes late. I was there for a sewn-in weave. The owner quoted me 200 bucks over the phone. She got started at about 10:45am. Everything was going fine. We ended at about 1:45pm which was kind of late in my opinion but what do I know??? The style was alright to be honest but it wasn't the best I've had and certainly not for 200 bucks. It was rather long and she asked me if I wanted her to cut it and I said yes. She cut it and I was a little bit happier. When it was all said and done I asked her so I owe you 200 right?? And She said 225 because of the cut. The she said something about how she guesses she should have told me that first. I agree cause a roommate of mine cuts hair and I could have got him to do it(I'm not from around here but from where I'm from if you get a weave then the cut and style are included)So I give her the $200 and she directs me to a bank up the street. I tell her I didn't know the cut was going to cost extra. She tells me that the original price of the 'do is $250 and I was quoted wrong. To make a long story short I didn't have to pay the extra 25 bucks. I will not be going back again and I will not recommend this place. I could have gotten mico braids somewhere else for about $150. Pros: the interior is nice Cons: expensive, out of the way, "so-so" work more

A waste of time and money! 9/12/2006

My stylist name was Sonji. The hair style was supposed to be lock extensions. I was charged $500 ($400 for labor) with a $200 deposit. My appointment was for 9am, but Sonji did not start working on my head until 11am. Half way through the hairstyle, I was asked to wait another two hours while she worked on other costumers! This was actually a good thing because it gave me a chance to check out my hairstyle. There was nothing professional about Sonji's work, nothing. The parts were not straight and the sections were not uniform (some sections were too big while other sections were too small). The locks were too big and 'clown like' in appearance (I requested small locks). I have a magazine that has pictures of lock extensions. In every picture, the locks are small, the parts are straight, and the sections are uniform; that is what gives the style its professional appearance. While Sonji did offer to make some corrections, I decided not to let her finish the hairstyle; I should not have to tell a stylist, who is charging $400 for her work, to make straight parts and uniform sections. I decided not to throw good money after bad and take the $200 deposit loss. The whole experience was a waste of time and money! Pros: None Cons: Price to high - skill level too low, no respect for appointment times more

My experience 6/5/2006

Rhonda was my hair dresser. Before I have had others in the salon. I belive in giving people a second chance. more

Stylist a no-show 4/12/2006

First appointment - absolutely loved my color and new twists. Went back for my 2nd appointment, the stylist never showed up. Very frustrating. Plus I had to listen to some video that was popped into the television blaring with vulgar language. I can not go back. Pros: Skill Cons: Atmosphere, No Customer Service more

Take out a loan for a style 4/10/2006

To keep your hair up on the regular you need to take out a loan if you plan to go here. The service is good but the prices are too high. $80 for a press and curl, plus a trim that was not trimmed all through out my hair. Horriable and dissappointed! more

Sistahs got me on loc down 3/19/2006

The family of Nappy or Not have a wonderfully run, innovative look into the Natural hair.. understanding, achieving a modern style. Whether it is Nappy or Not. As far as the timeliness. I have yet to go anywhere my people act like they have a lot going on, mad about their appointments because they aren't recieveing the attention that they're looking for. To those people, stop making it hard on your stylist, doing things at the last moment, pointing fingers at others when it should be yourself. Pros: Creative, Frugal, Busy Cons: Popular, Non-exclusive, Over-booked more

If not Rhonda, not anybody! 8/10/2005

Love the shop, atmosphere and all but getting an appointment with anyone other than the owner Rhonda could cause for a nasty taste in your mouth. Don't get me wrong, Rhonda is all that....but it's the other staff members that are not so worthy of praise. I do recommend this salon (highly) if you are going to see Rhonda. As far as the other ladies...one in particular(I won't mention names) might have you waiting for those flying pigs. Pros: Rhonda Cons: all others more

The Best Place to Get Your Hair Did 1/30/2005

Nappy or Not has some of the most innovative hair styles that I've seen in the last 10 years they have been in business. They always seem to know the latest trends and always make everyone feel welcome and at home. Everyone that leaves the shop, have the most complimentary hair designs that conform to their clients needs and bring out the best in their overall appearance. The owner, Rhonda Glenn, does her utmost to make everyone feel at home and assures that each customer leaves satisfied with either an all natural hairstyle or chemically treated. FYI Nappy or Not was voted the "Best Place to get your Hair Did in the Bay Area" in 2001 and I feel that they should recieve this award every year. Because it is a multi-cultural salon that caters to all race, nationalities, creed, sex, caste, or color. Pros: Healthy Hair Care, Innovative, Dynamic Cons: Only 2 Locations, Not Expensive, Dedicated Service more

The Best In The West For Hair Salon 1/30/2005

My hair has grown tremendously sent I start going to Nappy or Not. Currently I wear the double stranded twist. I have been wearing this style for about 2 years. It is the easiest hairstyle that I have ever worn. Recently, I let it down and found my hair to be the most luxurious it has ever been in my live. Rhonda and her staff was the most accommodating salon I have ever been in contact with. If you try it you might like it. Its my recommendation. Pros: Innovative, Knowledgable, Experts Cons: 2 locations, dedicated service, Inexpensive more
