Mystic Seaport, also known as The Museum of America and the Sea, is a wonderful outdoor living history museum. It's a reproduction of a 19th century New England seafaring village complete with role-playing villagers and sailors in costume. You can stroll through the village and see and board several tall ships, including the impressive Charles W. Morgan. The buildings include a general store, printing shop, bank, nautical instruments shop, etc. There's also an active preservation shipyard there. If you time it right, you might get to hear a performance of sea shanties on the village green.
