The Mystery Spot offers up plenty of Mystery! 10/25/2006

Located in the outskirts of Santa Cruz, CA, this Mystery Spot was just that, mysterious. I loved it as did my children. There are actual boundaries to the area where when you step inside the boundaries things change. Trees grow differently, there aren't bugs and animals, and gravity does strange things. I had with me 3 of my children. Two of them participated in some of the oddities. For instance, there was a board on which a level was placed to show you that the board was level. My 14 year old stood on one end and my 11 year old on the other. At certain ends of the board, the 14 year old appeared to tower over the 11 year old but if they switched ends, the difference was less obvious. They say science hasn't even come up with an explanation for what happens in the mystery spot. We were taken on a very short trek up a very steep hill. In one part of the trail, you feel very heavy as though magnets are pulling you down and shortly after that, you turn a corner and the grade is steeper but it is an easier climb. There is a "crooked" house atop the hill at the center of the mystery spot. You can stand at all sorts of strange angles like you shouldn't be able to without laying on the side of the hill or house. It is not something that I can truly explain. My only suggestion is you have to see it to believe it. more

Mystery or Illusion 9/30/2006

This is the weirdest, coolest place I have ever visited and *totally* want to go back! Located in Santa Cruz, CA it's the only thing like it in the US. If I remember correctly there's one like it somewhere in India as well -- maybe one other spot in the world, but very rare. It looks like a pretty non-descript place -- like a road side attraction for gullible tourists (yeah, well, I guess it kinda is!) but the difference with this place is that you can't figure it out! It's in the woods and was discovered in 1940. Nothing about this place is normal. The ground you walk on is perfectly level, yet the house built on the property looks crooked. Crazy thing about a crooked house? Put a level down on one of the "crooked" rails and it registers level. Even crazier thing? Place a ball on that same rail and tap it and it will roll *up* the "crooked" incline. (!) You can walk through the house and it's even weirder still; you can literally walk up the walls to the ceiling, via a ladder-type thing built onto the wall. I experienced it, I have photos, and I still can't believe it! Our tour guide did this cool experiment with us. She picked six of us from the group (two happened to be me and my boyfriend), all varying heights -- the tallest being my BF. I have a "before" photo that shows me on the left with a woman shorter than me beside me (so the first in line) and our heights increased, ending with my BF; we were asked to stand on this log. She rearranged us so that my BF was on the left and our heights were *supposed* to be descending -- my "after" photo shows us all about the same height. If you are taking a road trip to Cali any time soon, you *have* to check this place out! Here's the website http://www.mysteryspot.com/ for more information. more

Mystery Spot 4/15/2006

The Mystery Spot in the Santa Cruz mountains is whack. I don't think anyone has any reasonable explanation as to why you can lean back and not fall over or as to why the trees grow at a slant without tipping over. During the tour we were told some of the possible reasons the gravity acts as it does and one of them had something to do with aliens, but I think that's too bogus. If you are ever around Santa Cruz, you MUST visit this place. Visit their website ( http://www.mysteryspot.com ) for some of the photos, they're crazy. more

Spot of Amazement 8/18/2005

The Mystery Spot is indeed a spot of endless wonder and amazement. It will have you questioning whether you believe this spot to have powers or if this is some sort of elaborate hoax. You may never know. The tour starts out with a few tricks, but the most interesting part is the slanted cabin where you feel yourself falling towards one end. It's fun for everyone, but maybe not the faint of heart. more

I got dizzy for no apparent reason 8/10/2005

I'm not sure what it is, a naturally occuring gravity center, a gigantic magnet under the house, or a great ploy, but the Mystery Spot affected me physically. It's this house-cabin on the outskirts of Santa Cruz that will pull you down, and make you feel like you've lost your balance. There is no explanation for it, you just slide to the side and feel this big pull on your body. Fun for kids. more

It rocks! 7/9/2005

The Mystery Spot is so freaky! I don't know whether it's just a practical joke or if it really does break the laws of physics, but this is definitely worth a visit! The place isn't too expensive so if you have a free weekend, give this place a try. Hey, you get a free bumper sticker! more

Expirience the mystery 7/8/2005

Very good way to spend some time with the family if you are heading down to Santa Cruz, California. The first time I went there They really got my attention. I was thinking about it the whole rest of the day. Did you know that even Ripley's Believe IT OR NOT has gone to the spot and put it on TV because it was so amazing? I can't really explain what goes on there, but it is amazing. It is really unexplainable and if i tried I would ruin the experience. I definitly recoment it! PLUS! a free bumper sticker more
