I must say that we have enjoyed the food and view from this nicely appointed Rockport restaurant many, many times. Never-the-less, we will never be going back!!!!
This is a restaurant that potentially has it all. Unfortunately what is holding it back is an owner who really doesn't care about satisfying her customers and that arrogance and indifference is clearly shared by her staff.
Case in point, we arrived at the restaurant late yesterday morning to find a rope across the door and a young waiter standing on the other side with his arms crossed. When asked if they were open the waiter replied that they were but made no effort to either take down the barrier or uncross his arms. It wasn't until I asked him if there was another entrance that he made any effort to allow entry.
Once inside the restaurant we were immediately told that they could not seat the two of us at a table for four, even though the restaurant was 90% empty. OK, I get it, Memorial day weekend and a beautiful day on top of it. I am sure they were expecting a big crowd.
So we were escorted to a table for 2 on the upper patio. Immediately after sitting down we decided that the table next to us would have a better view so when the waiter approached us we asked if he minded if we moved to an adjacent table for 2. Well, you would have thought we insulted his mother. He stared and stammered and made it clear that he didn't like the request. Finally he told us that he would have to go speak with the manager. Again, the restaurant was nearly empty. At that point we were so frustrated by the total lack of warmth or interest demonstrated by the wait staff that we decided to leave and find some place that wanted our business.
This is not the first time My Place has demonstrated a near total disinterest in their customers and as previous reviewers have mentioned it clearly flows from the top down. Apparently business is just too good for her to either notice or care!!!!!
We took a walk back to the Blue Lobster, formerly the Greenery, and had just a wonderful time. They had just opened this weekend and made us feel like family the minute we walked in the door. The view from the Blue Lobster is nowhere near as enchanting as My Place. The food is nowhere near as interesting. But it was a wonderful meal, at half the price, served by people who cared about their customer. At the end of the day, people tend to do business with people they like and hands down the Blue Lobster is our new go-to place in Rockport!
