BOTCHED INSTRUMENT REPAIR, refuses to refund our money for their tech's mistakes.\r WARNING: Stay away from this store, especially for non-guitar needs and instrument repair!\r \r Our son's clarinet needed a complete cleaning, recorking, and all new pads, plus a new case. We spent over $200 when all was said and done. But when they were finished with the instrument, it was unplayable. Its faultiness was confirmed by my son's clarinet teacher.\r \r After they repeatedly refused to acknowledge there was anything wrong with the clarinet, we took it to another shop over an hour away from them for a second opinion. Thinking a minor adjustment would be needed, the second shop said they'd never seen anything like it. Excessive glue and pads that were not seated properly caused the clarinet to leak air, resulting in difficult sound production. It would take $250 just to make the clarinet playable again! I was shocked that The Music Place did such shoddy work.\r \r To sum it up, they became very unprofessional on the phone, refused to speak with the other tech regarding his findings, implied that I fabricated the whole thing, and accused our teacher of being inexperienced and not knowing anything. They REFUSE TO REFUND MY MONEY and therefore my son is left without a functioning clarinet.\r \r They repeatedly emphasized how their ""expert"" has been doing this for 20 years, as if even ""experts"" cannot make mistakes from time to time. Allegedly this tech does repairs for band instruments in a nearby school district, and I can only wonder if TMP is getting a cut of the proceeds, therefore does not want to alienate their tech. Otherwise, I cannot think of a single reason why you wouldn't want to hang onto an otherwise content customer who has other instruments she needs to purchase! Really, this was $150, not enough to make it worthwhile angering a good customer.\r \r I cannot emphasize to you enough how unprofessional they were (here I refer to Ken, the manager). I have never, ever been treated like this by ANY business, EVER. Again, he seems friendly and nice, but when something isn't right, he'll throw you to the wolves. TMP does NOT stand by their work. The other music shop was shocked that satisfaction wasn't guaranteed, as apparently it is standard with music shops that their work is guaranteed. more

I take guitar and bass lessons at the Music Place in West Berlin. My grand children also take voice and guitar lessons there. We love the staff. The instructors are the best. I am 61 and my grand kids are 12 years old. We are all doing great. The manager Ken is the best. I have had guitars repaired there and the jobs were well done and the price was right. more

Pretty Cool 3/26/2012

Being a drummer, it's not an ideal place for drumming needs but it was alright. I went in looking for a new bass head and a pair of sticks, but only left with sticks because they didn't have a bass drum head for the size i needed. It looks like everyone has had luck with guitar help and lessons so it seems like a good place. Also, if there is anyone who works there, what is the hiring age and requirements? I'm 16 (17 in december) and would like to apply for a job there. please comment more

Wonderful Service 11/11/2011

I brought in my 20 year old acoustic guitar for a revamp. They cleaned it, put on new strings, tuned it, adjusted the neck and basically made it look brand new while I waited. Everyone was extremely friendly and professional. I decided (without any prompting) to buy a guitar for my son while I was there. They set me up with everything I needed. I thought the service was exceptional. Now I'm thinking of taking guitar lessons from them! more

The Music Place 5/1/2010

The music place has been there a long time, exactly how long i don't know. I've read some of the reviews, one person was complaining bout the customer service is bad and they were ignored. I can't say i blame them because those things happen, it might of been that they were busy with incoming inventory or following up sales from the previous nights, just cause there's no one in the store and its just one customer and the crew it doesn't mean that they aren't pre occupied although, i do understand how that feels. I am sorry for the experience you've had and yes they did miss out on two sales and probably would of made a difference at end of day sales report. Pros: Great Environment for Family and to be rockstars Cons: Its a Small Shop... more

Am I Invisible? 3/8/2010

Can't say much other than I walked in there ready to buy 2 guitars. I was with my son. He wanted an electric guitar for his birthday. I decided to get myself one also. We were in that store with NO other customers for about 45 minutes. The employees couldn't be bothered to help us. We did get to check out the guitars though. We just weren't able to buy any at The Music Place. We went to Cherry Hill for that. Pros: Close to my House Cons: Was Ignored for 45 Minutes more

Just a Good Music Store 12/29/2008

The Music Place has been in Berlin for years, and quite frankly if they were horrible in any aspect that has been named here, they would have been out of business years ago. It is the only place in the area that services the musical community, and they do so to the best of their ability. They try to accomodate their customers to the best of their ability, but obviously cannot please everyone. Musicians are apt to being tempermental anyway, so please take the other reivews for what they are; ""opinions"". The bottom line is, if you want to drive up to Cherry Hill and go into the ""Home Depot"" of musical stores, then by all means do so. But if you want a more personal approach, then maybe this is the store for you. The lessons are also given by individuals who are very passionate about their craft. Highly recommend. Pros: Personal touch. Cons: Not as much selection. more

The equivilent of shopping at Wawa instead of Shop Rite 9/13/2008

Living in Berlin, I have been to this store many times. When there was no place else to shop for your musical/instrumental needs, it was ok to go here. Now, with Guitar Center in Cherry Hill, going to Music Place should only be an act of desperation if you need strings real fast, etc. I just called to see if they had any pick guards for a Fender Strat and they only have 1 in stock. Guitar Center has at least 15 different styles to choose from. Why pay for their overhead? Basically, it's just not smart business practice to shop at the small stores. Financially, it is better for you to get a better price and sacrifice the customer service end of it. I do not want to pay more money for an item because the salesman is nice. Would you buy a car that way? Same concept. Pros: Close to home Cons: over priced more

Best Place for Guitars, Lessons, and Friendly Service!!! 8/11/2008

I have yet to find a music store that beats The Music Place in terms of selection, service, and price. They have a huge selection of acoustic and electric guitars, friendly service, and they have very competitive pricing. The best thing about this store is their friendly, personal service. You can't find that at any of the ""Big Box"" stores around here. FIVE STARS!!!! more

The Music Place 8/6/2008

If you are NOT a Cherry Hill snob - this place is for you. The staff is extremely friendly and are always welcoming. My family and I have purchased 2 guitars and drums - satisifaction is and has always been guaranteed. Our entire family takes lessons ranging from drums to voice - all of our teachers are knowledgeable, encourging, polite and friendly. I recommend The Music Place and all of their services. Pros: great, friendly, family oriented and extremely knowledgeable. Cons: There really isn't any cons - maybe they need more parking spaces. more

Most horrible music dealers in South Jersey 1/22/2008

The customer service that is offered at this store is appalling. I have never encountered a more horribly structured enviroment of a business. Customer satisfaction is horrible and they will do nothing to satisfy the customer. Staff is poorly trained and has a lack there of any type of knowledge when it comes to selling or even slightly informing you of any instrument. When they are telling you something about the insturment most likely it is wrong or misleading and the owner has no intentions of satisfying his customers situations at ALL. more
